Hey. I'm new here, and I figured what better a way to get things rolling than to brag about my Inspiron 3800? LOL

Ok, well, I first received this system on April 5, 2001. Here's the specs:

Pentium III - 700 MHz
10 GB HD
128 MB SDRAM
ATI Rage Mobility M-1
ESS Maestro Audio
LG 8x DVD-ROM
Windows Millennium Edition

Yeah, I call it my craptop. It's been a hell of a system for me though. I just recently replaced it with a new desktop, but I've still got ol' crappy hanging around.

Nice to be on this forum.

Nice, I also have an Inspiron 3700 lying here somewhere. Its specs are worse than yours. P3-450Mhz, 192 megs of ram, 40 gig HD, ATI Mobility M-1, ESS Maestro Audio, CD-ROM drive, winXP Pro, and Netgear wireless card.

Aside from the processor, I'd have to say your system is better than mine. You have more RAM, a bigger HD, a better version of Windows, and the sound and video are equal.

I have an old Latitude Cpi that I don't use anymore... PII baby!

A Dell Dimension XPS PII 333MHz with 128 MB RAM, 8 GB HD, with a 32 MB NVIDIA TNT2 Ultra has been my only computer for the past six years. I use it every single day for web browsing and occasionally for some (now outdated) games. During web browsing I'm now getting a lot of messages that I'm out of disk space on my C drive. I cancelled my subscription to PCGamer about two years ago because I couldn't run any of the games anyway.

I'm getting ready to get an i9100 as my desktop replacement. I've always wanted a laptop, but couldn't justify the performance hit before. With the i9100, it doesn't look like I have to give up much at all, and I'm looking forward to having a modern machine again.

Don't underestimate the lowly Inspiron 3800.

I've used one for two years to do digital DJ & Karaoke shows and it has performed like a champ.

OK, there was that one incident where some drunk chick tossed a drink on me and it splashed down into the keyboard, and I wound up having to put in a replacement, but other than that, no problems whatsoever.

I recently upgraded the OS from WinMe to WinXP (Dell says you can't, but you can). I did this because the 3800's BIOS would not support the 80gb HD I had recently installed.

I've recently purchased a faster CPU (750Mhz instead of 600Mhz) and a larger LCD screen (14in w/1024x768 resolution instead of 12in w/800x600 resolution) and will be modding it out to make it compatible with some new DJ/Karaoke software I am planning to upgrade to. One more 80Gb HD for the media bay and I will be running lean and mean for another couple of years. Not too shabby when you consider that laptops sold for this type of use typically run $2-3K, and I only paid $350 for the machine on eBay, and all the mods/upgrades will still have me at less than $1K.
