Sager 5680 - M10 release date - - Page 2

Um, have you guys been reading ANY news lately?

They already stated what the M10 will have, on websites, and TechTV as well. Yes, it will have Dx9.
Seems as if we have two different release dates here...

ATI said that the M10 will SHIP in laptops in May. Most certainly that will be the case with Dell and the new Toshiba's.

However Sager/Clevo will not be shipping the M10 in their new 8888 laptops until AFTER July (as per Adam's post in the 8887 Display? thread), and in the 5680 laptops in October.

Right, Clevo is thus behind the others. Your are apparently talking speifically about Clevo.

We'll see Clevo m10 notebooks in a few months.

We'll see others right now pretty much.

Let's remember the M9. Dell and Toshiba had it listed on their website to be ordered in a laptop system 1.5-2 months before they actually shipped any. If they were going to be shipping the M10 in a laptop any time soon, I would bet you it would have been on their website many weeks ago as an ordering option. Last time Dell the M9 up many weeks before Sager, but Sager actually shipped before Dell according to the people I knew that had the Dell 8200 on order with the ATI 9000. I don't know if it will be the same thing this time, but we'll see.

I wouldn't be suprised if it shows up on websites soon, but I also won't be suprised if you read the fine print and it says shipping will be delayed for weeks.

requires testing

You just dont pick up a GPU, plink it into a system and send it to the customer without rigorously testing it first. I hope Sager will take their time, test it out and make sure there are no issues before they start shipping laptops equipped with the new stuff.

Yes you will see the M10 in other laptops before long but you will find some little extras that dont seem to interest you as much.

The 8888 will have the 800Mhz FSB, 400Mhz DDR2 RAM and the M10 apart from some other performance extras. Not to mention the Pentium CPU's with HT right down to 2.4Ghz...

For those who can wait it will be well worth it. For those who are impatient...well...think about what you'll be missin...

As to this post my guess for the 56xx with M10 would be Aug/Sep.
Im guessing feb/march 2005
Well, I wont be missing much

It's all about the video card. They announced the thing in March, they said notebooks would be here in May. Well, I'm still waiting. Who cares about 800mhz fsb etc. It wont make the difference that waiting just for the M10 will.

Are you crazy??

The only REAL bottleneck to any current system is the RAM and the HDD. Give it the 800Mhz Bus and the 400Mhz DDR Ram and the 7200 rpm HDD AND the M10 and it will scream.

I dont think putting in the M10 in any current Sager will make such a HUGE difference. It may score around 10,000 3D Marks in the 2001SE test.

The laptop equipped with all the goodies will score over 13-14K no problem...

Will the 8888 have any better sound options do you know?
It will scream with just the M10

Sure it will be faster with the other stuff, but think reality here, the video card is the real missing link.

The other stuff will add those few extra frames, maybe... that you might want just to say you got 3340 3dmarks instead of 3180
post #31 of 36
Yes, Lordberek is right. Right now the only real bottleneck to any current laptop system is graphics card.
New P4 with 800MHz and dual DDR config won't make any different much in gaming (using the same graphics card).

Don't get me wrong, I've a long time lurker in this forum, and have been waiting with baited breath for the new model (and the Sprinsdale board). Back in January the first rumours started floating around on this board of a new 5680 model in June. It then changed to the 8888 and June or July. Alas, now the dates are after July, and I have no choice but to move forward in June as I am REQUIRED to have a laptop by August for my MBA program. I'm torn, but I can't be worrying about a laptop shipping to me, getting the thing up an running, etc, at the same time I am trying to start my MBA...

If all you are interested is in FPS then perhaps yeah...

But the game overall, or any program for that matter will scream on the souped up 8888. The faster RAM and Bus speeds and HDD rpm will have a greater impact than you can imagine.

and I respectfully disagree (read like George Bush ) that the M10 alone will make a huge difference. Remember that the M10 has DDR400 RAM and our bus speeds are only 533Mhz so any data transfer will suffer latency issues.

The best bet is to match everything...Motherboard, RAM, GPU, HDD and that IMO is the 8888. The 8888 will TROUNCE anything with the M10 and without the rest of the goodies...

Adam gives his opinion in this thread if you want to check it out...http://sagerforums.com/showthread.php3?s=&threadid=3481

your probalby right gsferrari... I'm just a major gamer and think FPS all the time

Load times and such seem to be put on the backburner.

This is what I'm going to be using it for, and you tell me what will be best for me to get -

1. GAMES! EQ2, Doom3, older ones, strategy etc. etc.

2. Movies! Divx...

3. Music

4. The usual little stuff like word processing

I have three main systems at home... hard drive space would be nice, but I'd probably stick to HD speed over the space, as long as there is decent amount of it.

Btw, how are laptops nowadays for Divx encoding and playback on DVD? My friends older laptop doesn't read DVDs real well, and the screen is not the greatest.
Well on the subject of DivX I can tell you that I have ripped more than a dozen DVD's even some of the long ones at SVCD quality in under 3 hours.

The screen on the 5670 is great - the best
The 8887 screen is very good - second best

I have a 5660 which is clearly not quite as good as the other two. I just felt the 8887 screen was very nice, large and had better viewing angles than my screen. The 5670's UXGA is untouchable...

When its a question of load times thing HDD speed and Cache volume. Faster the better...5400 is good but IS a bottleneck.

When you are talking about texture memory, remember that your system RAM also helps to a certain extent and the faster it is, the more you have, the better your FPS in texture intensive games like Doom 3, Splinter Cell etc.

Strategy doesnt really matter...current laptops are quite well equipped to handle even the latest strategy games.

Music...do you mean ripping and using software like Fruity Loops?? works like a charm and I can rip an entire CD with 128Bit encoding in under 3 minutes on my 5660. I wish I had the HT cpu to see if it would go faster...

For now I would hang in there and wait. There is soo much coming out in the next few months...Intel CPU's with HT down to the 2.4Ghz speeds, ATi Radeon 9600, and the rest of the goodies...

If you still arent happy at that point of time - at least the prices of current laptops will have dropped from the sky
