There are only two companies that sell AW laptops on Ebay that can be trusted. PM if you want their names. Otherwise, there is a 99.9% chance you will lose your money.

I personally know of some that have. Dont let it happen to you.....too.

dragons link only confirms what Ive been saying, its coming, but its gunna be a while. Where is the confusion?

helidude, you've got mail! lol i was wondering, i read something on theinquirer.com about there being an AGP version of the NV41m (mobile 6800 ), is there a chance that AW will offer this as the final upgrade for the A-51m2 and that it will come sometime before doomsday?
Yeah, but if there was a 6800 upgrade, they would have to plug in a second power supply directly to the video card.
i think the 6800m will be hella stripped down just because of this
post #46 of 84
and even if it is, it will still beat the shizzat out of anything currently available. dare i......HOPE...that it will be full-featured? lol

I'm pretty sure I read that the current 9700 has 6 pipelines. There has got to be some serious perf boosting even bumping it up to 10 or 12 PL's.

Imagine............

An AW that can play FarCry or the like with all settings at very high!

We can dream cant we?

The 9700 is a 4 pipe gpu, as are the 5700 and X600

I m a noob …. Can I ask a question? I currently ordering a alien ware 51m … I don’t need it really bad rite now…

Should I cancel ordering my Laptop and I wait for the next version of 51m that support PCIe….? Or any chance new system coming soon?

Or that would be too long to wait and alien 51m will have upgrade option of PCI in the future?

Personally, I'm willing to wait...say march/april 2005 for pci-express notebooks, I think one of the biggest PITA's about gaming laptop is that after a month or so, your graphics are obselete.

For anything or than games, and media development apps...I feel the laptops out right now are more than enough for all that basics.

So yea if you plan on playing games, imo the ability to upgrade graphics in a notebook is a godsend and is worth waiting for...you'll hate yourself when they eventually do come out and you dont have one. But hey if you got the $$ to buy both..go for it lol, unfortunately I not as lucky to do something like that.

well, the problem that people like me have is that they need a new computer NOW and can't really afford to wait for PCI-E and everything else to come out. So it's either something with the high probability of an upgrade in the future now from ebay or something cheap from mwave now, no choices other than that unless you can get a Dell Dimension 8200 to play Doom3.

While there may be a pcie based gfx card this year it wont be on a pcie bus, but bridged to an agp bus as stated that that native pcie boards are still a way out. You can label me or call me anything u want psycho, it doesnt change the fact that you are wrong.
As I said... there will be Notebooks sold with PCI-E video cards this year. It's only an X600 but it's happening...

Going to do the same thing, i would like a laptop right now but oh well...

Good things come to those who wait

Does the graphics card use AXIOM, as there doesn't seem to be any mention of it on the Acer's site... so what exactly does a PCI-e graphics card have to offer if you can't upgrade it?

Probably nothing right now, it's just the latest/greatest.

Your damned if you do and damned if you don't.. I can only imagine how much the new AW will cost. I don't think there are any mobile manufactures that are currently even offering the new P4 LGA775 socket with PCIe. Has anyone seen any articles about it in a mobile solution? If this platform comes to fruition, how long do you think it will take AW's R&D to develop a new mobile laptop? I think we have a better chance of getting one more graphics module before they will release a new m3. I would have to speculate a new m3 late 2005 or 2006. You can also rest assured that Dell probably has exclusive rights to the new ATI PCIe in the mobile area. I would buy a new AW now while you can, the price is reasonable.

I can't see AW rushing in with PCI-e just yet, I would guess they'd want to wait for AXIOM and MXM to show up before they decide which to use. That is of course unless they develop their own exclusive for AW....

first of all, it would be uniwill's R&D (alienware just puts the stuff in, uniwill makes the case and mainboard). Second of all, a new graphics module for the current 766 chassis (i hope they don't change it for the sake of ppl upgrading lol) would be the 9800 and thats it, as there are no more mobile AGP solutions coming out. Third, if they do release it it'll prolly be soon. Fourth, what the hell is an M3? Fifth, if dell pulls another stunt like that, we should all send our money to sager to stop such tomfoolery. i don't think they would like to get pwned like last time....

Why is everyone ragging on Dell for obtaining exclusive rights to a product, for the first 30 days? As I explained earlier, the high-end notebook market is small and there are several companies out there competing for customers, I think it was a smart move.
the mr9800 doesn't quite matter as much as the initial launch of PCI-E, IMO, as sager wasn't going to put a 9800 in their lappys anyways. but if dell is going to lock up a whole new industry standard and its associated uber-cards (i.e. x800, 6800, etc.), then i think we'll have a little bone to pick with them.
