Need advice picking a Centrino Lappy

Hey, I thought I would try in this section since there are so many different manufacturers I have never heard of. Any ways, here is what I am looking for in the $2000 range. At least a 1.7ghz Dothan, 60gb 5400rpm, 128mb Radeon 9700, 15.4" screen (prefer glossy if available), and 512mb DDR ram. I was thinking about the MiTAC 8050 but I'm not sure between these manufacturers:

Hypersonic Aviator CX6
Voodoo PC Envy m:370
GamePC GPN-CEN3
Model 8050 (HyperData)

Battery life is important since I have 3 two hour classes twice a week. But I also want to have the ability to play games on it as well (gotta do something at work). This isn't a desktop replacement, but want a balance between power and mobility. Any insight or suggestions between these would be very helpfull. Thanks for your time.

Those are all the same laptop.

Check this link for some ideas on what's out there in Centrinos. It has the basic specs of various models and where you can buy them.

you'll need an extra battery. My mitac generally gets 3hrs and 50minutes during surfing. Is the widescreen neccessary or will you settle for a 4:3?

I was thinking the widescreen would just be cool to have, but I guess I don't really need it. And if those are all the same laptop, how come the prices vary soo much?

Well,

Voodoo = Incredible reputation, incredible period. But way way overpriced.
Hypersonic = Slighly overpriced.
Mitac = Good price.
Asus = Good build quality, good price.

Some of them are botiques (e.g. Voodoo) and others are just "shops." The botiques are kind of like artsy botiques - you pay more for the image/grandeur associated w/ the name/product (want a really good example, check out go-l.com hehe).

Another suggestions, take a look at the CL56, a config like in my sig will run you about 1600-1700 (maybe even less). Its not widescreen, but it's probably cheaper than the Mitac because of a wider availability.

I've been doing some hunting. The best deal I've found so far is at myaopen.com with the 1557. The next one up in price for a strong system is the CL56 at mwave.. It seems to go up from there.

Ya go to Go-L and configure a $50 000 dollar lappy . No joke.

Be warned... many people on this forum really hate Go-L. Stuff about racists and such.

When stuff is displayed on the widescreen (eg. games), do the just stretch the image to fit? Does it look weird or distorted? I guess that would help me make my decision if I buy a widescreen or not.

Yes and no. Some games stretch to fit (with and without distortion, depending on the res's they offer), some games have a hack or mod that can put it in a normal window but with black bars down the side. Its probably safe to assume that all new cames (i.e. all games currently being released and those to come) will support widescreen format.

I like the specs on the Sager 3760 (glossy widescreen), I'll just wait and see what they come out with next. The latest I can purchase one is mid-August since I start school in Sept. and am heading off to Vegas the first weekend in Sept. Hopefully it will be out by then.
