Question about the 5.1 sound on sentia

Here's a question for you techie's out there! Ok, I bought the Creative Inspire T5400 5.1 sound system for my laptop. When I started to hook it up to my desktop(only supports 2.1) I noticed that theres two ways to hook them up. 1.)Using the included triple stereo-to-stereo audio cables(sound card needs to have outputs for the center, left/right, and rear left/right) but i know laptops dont have that unless you get that external sucker. 2.) Using an analog cable. For a laptop you have to use the analog cable if you dont get the external usb sound thing and i didnt. So im just curious if i use the analog cable for my laptop if all 5 speakers work? This is probably a dumb question but i just cant figure it out and i have searched some of the net about it and came up with nothing. So if you can help me out i will appreciate it. Thanks

I easily was able to get 6.1 on my laptop. I hooked up all my speakers in my HT, but that has an amp.
