Hi all,
I'm having an odd issue with my Mitac 8355's USB ports. It seems as if I cannot have both my Logitech Optical mouse and a USB storage device plugged into the same "group" of USB ports on the 8355... that is, the two ports on the back, OR the two ports on the right side. If I have the mouse plugged into, say, a port on the back, then plug my USB Jumpdrive or my external hard drive into the adjacent port, the drive isn't always recognized. On the other hand, if the drive is plugged in first, WinXP recognizes it okay, but when I plug in the mouse into the adjacent port, *it* isn't recognized! I find I have to have one device plugged into a port on the back, and the other plugged into a port on the side, in order for both to work correctly. This happens with both an older USB 1.1 keychain drive and a brand-new external USB 2.0 hard drive.
I am running Windows XP Pro SP1 with all the latest drivers and Windows Updates. It doesn't seem to be a power issue, as the total power requirements for these devices (as listed in Device Manager in the properties for the USB root hubs) is nowhere near the 500mA per port limit. (Even the USB hard drive doesn't draw more than 95mA according to Windows).
Anyone else ever have a problem like this? Any ideas why it happens?
