The 7200rpm hard drive is much, much faster than the 4200rpm hard drive. Programs and games load much faster etc etc.

Also, you have a 12 year old kid, and your dad is buying the system for you?

Can I have your dad?

I always recommend going for the best graphics card offered whether or not you are a gamer.
If you won't be doing a lot of video editing or gaming, I don't think a higher-end graphics card is necessary... unless your 12 y.o. will be gaming or doing video editing. Besides, the GPU is relatively easy to replace or upgrade... it might save $100, but $100 saved is $100 earned.

Yeah, like gmnstrunr said, if you're not gaming or doing video editing or CAD, you don't need the best card. The 5200Go will be more than enough.

Naa no reason to say you're spoiled. You're just lucky that's all. That's a lotta love.

It depends on how much you're paying for it...

Btw -- the system looks great.

it was right at $2300.....

That's not too bad (if it's before taxes). If that's after... I would drop down the warranty one notch. Three years for a warranty really is a long time for a compy, even if it'll be handed down.

No that is with taxes and all

It sounds good. If you plan on burning DVDs, you would want the DVD burner (sorry; I'm really good at the obvious sometimes). It might become useful later as well... but don't underestimate the power of the memory key. I like it better than I do a CD.

Your system looks sweet.

Check the coupon codes thread for any discounts for Dell. Your system specs sound good.

Yup, it's the other way around. It's Gateway's attempt to compete with the low-end Dell stuff. Everyone wrote Gateway off a long time ago, but they are still hanging in there, so you have to give them credit. There high end laptops are actually really nice and get top reviews.

so should i of got a gateway? you know they have a 17" screen i just thought that with them closing all the stores they may be in trouble.....

The 9100 has gotten excellent reviews as well. (Nothing against Gateway in that I haven't used their notebooks before. Bad eperiences with desktops, however.)

As for the two-day delivery -- the time you're scheduled to receive the order is not two days from now because Dell needs to produce the machine you want. They need to make it, ship it from Malaysia or Singapore, and then truck it on UPS to your house. The UPS part is the two-day part.
