powernotebooks or discountlaptops?

Hi. I'm planning to get a compal cl56 soon, and have narrowed my choice of retailers to powernotebooks and discountlaptops (I heard the censorship's no more?). Anyway, if anyone here has bought a notebook from either site, especially a cl56, please post your experiences here. Feel free to rate the company with __%, __/10, thumbs up, whatever.

As far as I know, I'll save roughly $60 going with discountlaptops, which isn't that much of a deal, but I'm out to see if the quality of laptops differs significantly between the two companies.

P.S. It would be nice if you had any dead pixels on your laptop and what the retailer did about it to help you.

P.P.S. It would also be nice if you could post the makers of the RAM (corsair, kingston, no brand, etc) and hard drive (toshiba, i dunno what else).

Powernotebook's new "Elite" setting is definitely pretty sweet.

Are you interested in a longterm warranty? I am buying my CL56 from powernotebooks tonight because they offer a 3 year parts and labor warranty for just $70. That's DAMN cheap. Plus, they offer lifetime tech support, free of charge.

Yeah, they're openly affiliated with Christianity, but as I read elsewhere on the forums, this means that they will be forced to treat me kindly and deal honestly

I definitely rather have a 3 year parts and labor warranty than $60. And again, the Elite "no dead pixel" **** and Arctic Silver application makes it easily no question in my mind.

i like powernotebooks.com. I'm going to have my laptop painted later on and they are the only ones that said I wont void the warranty if i take my laptop apart.

discountlaptops ships very fast after you order. Usually it only takes 1-2 days to process it. They give a free upgrade to a 2-year warranty if you buy it with an os, and you can easily add additional years onto the warranty.

powernotebooks ships fast too. I received mine 4 days after i placed the order with 2 day ups and I live in Hawaii so they really shipped it the day or the day after i placed the order

Powernotebooks.com "Elite" series looks like a great deal. I like their warranty also. Very good reseller rating too. A 1 year no dead pixel policy is awesome.

My questions are: a) is is the one year no dead pixel worth the extra cost?
b) is the 2 yr lcd damage protection worth the extra money? I can't really tell what it actually does cover after reading the warranty description.
c) does anyone know what chem usa's dead pixel policy is and if they even have one? i couldn't seem to find that info. and finally d) does one have better service than the other? The first 3 questions are the most important.

supposedly it's a warrenty for physical damage to the LCD. "Standard warranty service covers the notebook from manufacturer defects and mechanical failure. It does not cover physical damage to the LCD itself. The LCD Damage Protection Program protects you against the cost of replacing the most expensive part of a notebook -- the LCD." , but after reading the exclusions from the warrenty i don't see what it actually does cover, since things like transportation damage are excluded, "cosmetic or structural items, component(s) never covered by an original manufacturer’s warranty; damage, warping or rusting of any kind in the housing, case or frame of the product(s) or any non-operating part, including plastic, loss of data or loss of use during the period in which the product(s) sat at a repair facility or otherwise awaiting parts." So I'm guessing if for some reason my lcd screen was smashed it they would replace it?

Discountlaptops can replace your LCD screen (only 1 per year) if any damage is reported (watch out!, see the limitations!). However, a "no dead pixel policy" is priceless, specially if the price is not big. Believe me, you don't want a green pixel always on on the middle of the screen, so you can imagine 5 dead pixels, which is the typical warranty limit.
