My cl56 is currently disassembled for modding and painting, but I did manage to hook the guts up and turn it on.

Surge540, in the process, $200, myself, i will when its done.

$200, wow that's not bad, other sites charge like $400. Now is it the whole top and bottom laptop or everything without the bottom? Also where did you get it done, local shop or somewhere online?

EDIT: what did you man my yourself, are you painting it??

i make custom computer cases... part of my shop is a paint booth.

if i was painting a laptop for someone else, it would be more than $200. gotta factor in labor costs.

and im painting the entire laptop.

anywhere we can find a gallery or a website with previous work?

If your doing it yourself, there is no way it should cost $200. Are you using some crazy paint or something?? Perhaps gold flakes, with pearl essence?? 18 coats?? I could paint a car with $200 worth of paint. And yes, I know what I'm talking about, a good friends dad of mine works for du Pont and he has painted many a car in his day.

I am painting my laptop with high end PPG paints. Using Primer, Base Coast, and Top Coat. Primer is $10 a pint, base coat is $40 for a pint x 2 colors, and top coat is another $30 for a pint. If you add in the cost for the many different levels of grit of sand paper, acrylic reducer, clear coat catalyst, and buffing polish, I am at $180. Don't forget masking tape and vynil roles for designs... $200.

Yes you could paint a car with $200 worth of paint, but would the paint job be any good or last a long time?

if someone paid for all the hardware and asked you to make them a pc w/ a custom case similar to the angel, how much would it cost you to assemble the whole computer? that thing is sweet btw

depends on the resource and labor costs. Project Angel cost about $2000 to do, case alone, but half of it is labor costs. It takes a lot of time and effort to make a custom case like that. Most of the cases I do arent so wild as PA. I'm about to complete another one on the same tier.

I meant that it would only be $200 for the paint, on a very small car But seriously, I think $200 in material costs to paint a laptop is outrageous. I agree with most of what you said, and it could definetely get that high, but how many coats are you doing?? You should only need 2 coats, maybe 3 max, and 1 pint should be enough for both coats. Maybe 2 pints max. So lets do the math

Primer = $10
Base Coat = $40x2 = $80
Top coat = $30 (I'm assuming this is another color)
Clear Coat = $20

Total = $140

I guess it adds up eventually, but seriously that paint is rediculously expensive. But then again I'm used to getting it for a great price. I painted my whole car in black with a white pearl essence, most expensive paint I've ever used and it was $40 a pint. So I can only hope you are using an essence of gold flake, something to justify that cost.
