5400rpm vs 7200rpm - worth the price hike? 64vram vs 128vram ???? - Page 2

doh im so damn confused..... im not sure if the lag i face is coz of a slow hdd or less of ram ( even though i have 512 mb ram ) ....

For Example: while running ed2k and donwloading @ 60 kb/sec... it lags quite a lot... also once a download is COMPLETING ( the stage when it has finished downloading and is actually putting the pieces together to make one file ) it lags a lot and even after its complete it lags for a few min too ... ( takes quite some tme to load stuff and while minimising windows it gets kinda stuck ) ..... im in a fix..

it takes like 8-10 secs just to load IE and its about the same time for other progs which sucks imo..

Need advise.. help!

I think you need to do a defrag first.

i dont think emule and ie together could possibly ever use more than 512 ram..more hd speed would help you here but im not sure by how much. make sure you dont have any spyware running either. hit ctrl+alt+del and click on processes and that should show you how much memory every process is using. you could have alot of spy ware or services slowing you down too.

That's sounds like a classic case of spywareiskillingmycompitis. dl ad-aware and spybot S&D and run them multiple times while in Safe Mode so that the progs don't get a chance to load at startup. but do a backup if you can and a sytem restore before you start doing all this. This sounds exactly like was happening to me (I have two brothers who click first ask questions later), but it was a lost cause and i had to wipe the drive and start over.

well i reformatted a few days ago and i dont notice any spyware in my processes currently so i think the problem isnt the spyware....i did run ad aware too.

Did you re-install your chipset drivers?

Something sounds horribly wrong there.
ummm no.... i didnt re install my chipset drivers... dont wanna screw things up even more.. do u guys think its coz of my slow hard drve??

well im running ed2k as we speak and im downloading huge multiple gb ps2 isos, and no lag. on a old ass computer with 128mb ram and a god knows what speed hd. it will lag up when a file is completing just like you, but normally nothing. hd speed will help you speed things up yes, but your ultra slow-ness sounds like its a problem in itself. did you ctl+alt+del and look at all the processes running? if its not spyware or "services" its some type of hardware problem that i cant help you with.

Not to hijack, but...

If I were to upgrade RAM myself would it be smart just to wear latex gloves instead of trying to ground myself?
