How do these work? Do the fans on the cool line up with the fans on the bottom of the lappy? Would one of these be comfortable to set on you lap and then the lappy on top of it?

Actually, even the lapCool1 or Vantec LPC-201 has the adjustable fan speed and seems to have the same ratings for noise at max fan speed - 26dB. the 201 also comes with built-in 2.0USB hub so I guess it is the new paint that is the biggest difference .
My guess is that LapCool LPC201 (the one at newegg.com) needs to be used with the AC adapter all the time and cannot use the laptop battery through the USB connection. It seems to me that this is the biggest difference between the two.

hmmm well the one which uses the ac adapter ( lpc201 ) as far as i know, can be used using the usb too i think..

Yeah, you are right. What I meant is that the LPC201 can use the USB only to power the fans and needs the adapter for the usb hub to work. I am hoping that the new LapCool2 can get both of these done only through USB connection although from reviews I read it seems (it is not very clear to me) that it will still need the adapter for the USB hub. All in all, I don't think there is any difefrence in the specs of LapCool1 and 2. May be they just changed the fans, but CFM and noise specs do not change at all.. This leaves a new paint to be the only upgrade.

The JetArt NP4000 seem to be a better solution. Same spec and shape + 5 hours battery...

Lapcool 2 available here...

Ok, and it seems the Lapcool 2 201 (grey, 29.95)is only powered through the ac adaptor and has the usb hub. The 301 (blue, 39.95) is only powered through usb, but doesn't have the usb hub. And the 305 (black, 59.95) is powered through usb or ac and has the usb hub.

However, on frozencpu the 201 is blue, and the 301 is grey...so i dunno, getting confused.

301 should be blue and black 305
