Help, please!
Everytime my computer starts up, I get a message sayig "Found primary IDE controller" then it says "Found Secondary IDE controller" but it finally gives an error message saying that the driver is not intended for this hardware.

What drivers do I need to reinstall? I downloaded the Intel Chipset drivers from Sager's page but that doesnt help. Ive tried almost everything else on their page but that didnt help either.

My recommendation is to start up in safe mode, go to device manager, and "Uninstall" (not just delete) all the drive controllers that are listed in there. I'm guessing that somehow you got a third-party driver installed that thinks that it can control your drive controller, but once it starts, windows realizes that it's wrong...

If you go through and uninstall those bumb drivers, then reboot, it should work. The other option is to use the update driver function and manually select the right driver. The drive controller in your 8890 should be the same as mine, which is "Intel(R) 82801EB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers" Once that controller is installed, the default primary and secondary controllers that are associated with that driver should work as well.

Let me know how it goes..

Thanks, I tried that but it doesnt work.

Thing is, I have an Hp DVD200e DVD writer and I had to uninstall my ATA storage controllers to be able to update my HP firmware since it would otherwise cause a BSOD upon plugging in my DVD writer.

Now that I upgraded my firmware I thought I could reinstall the drivers but I cant seem to find them anywhere. Now everytime on startup, my computer looks for them but finally gives an error message saying that the driver is not intended for this hardware.

I need the orignal drivers, but cant find them anywhere, not even on sager's site.

Hi Vandelay,
Are you talking about the drivers on the floppy disks shipped with the 8890?
I can email you disk images if you need.
Just drop me a line.

Well I got the drivers, but I still have a problem. It says "driver not intended for this platform" and refuses to install the drivers

I love windows. NOT!
My normal answer would be reinstall XP from CD and insert the driver floppy when requested during the XP installation process.
I gather that is not an option.

Have you removed the DVD writer and tried without it?
You might have some sort of device conflict. Is the DVD writer internal (ie in the frontmost drive bay) or is it USB/FW connected?
Also make sure the MP3 or 6in1 reader are removed (if you have either one).

Can you explain in a bit more detail the procedure you used to remove your drivers and do the update.

Oh, make sure you have your teddy bear handy - you might need to hug it

Ok I think this explains what's happening to me. Happens every startup.

Is RAID enabled (Dp Switches) or are you trying to set up RAID?

No, I dont have raid.

I have 2 drives, one 40, and one 60. I never had raid enabled.
