Operating Systems on a dell

I am most likely going to order a Dell i8600, I am wondering if it is possible to reformat the dell and re-install the OS that came with it (winxp home in my case) or another OS onto the HD. They put a lot of stuff I don't need on the HD, and I want to wipe it. Is it as easy to do as a desktop? Or does dell make it so you can only install OS's that came from dell?

same thing as a desktop.

Put in the windows cd.
goto the bios, and put boot from cd first in boot order.
reformat HD
install

as soon as u boot up, keep hitting the F2 key. Then, to change pages in the bios, i believe it is alt+p
