Hard drive activity 'clicks'

The hard drive activity indicator blinks and "clicks" a lot of this 600M.
At times, maybe every other 10 to 15 seconds it is active with short blinks and activity clicks. I reformatted the HD so it's got none of the dell software. Just a new copy of xp pro. I'm not running any background programs, so why is it doing that?

I disagree that it is a bad HD. XP will do alot of things in the background even thought you may not be running any applications yourself. Indexing will definitely be busy in the background if you have it turned on. As for the clicks that is normal for many drives. The Hitachi 7200 60 GB will do this by design.

Unless you are getting page fault errors or some other fatal error you can't explain you have nothing to be concerned about.
