MicroMedics Sucks! - Page 3

Ever consider contacting the local Better Business Bureau? This kind of poor business practice can have someone's commercial license revoked at worst, or their membership in the BBB taken away at least.

I disagree. On-site customer support and service is good business. I am a technician for a satellite communications company, and when we have a unit go down in the field, we send a tech out there as soon as humanly possible (I've been paged in the middle of the night) to make sure the unit is repaired or replaced. Why? Because many of these units are integral for the sucessful operation of our customer's business, in the same fashion that many laptops are integral for the sucessful operation of the user's business. If we weren't willing to go to extraordinary lengths to ensure customer satisfaction, then our clients would be more than happy to take their contracts to another company that would.

ONCE AGAIN. i SAID that sending someone out to the customer for a problem is "GREAT" however it is no humanly possible in laptop repair biz on such a LARGE scale. Your company prolly has a couple hundred satellites between several hundred clients and your probably located in one central location around the satellites you fix. im talking THOUSANDS of laptops ALL OVER the country. any laptop that comes into bestbuy compusa toshiba HP Micromedics get..think about that. How many people own those. HOW could it be humanly possible to send out a tech everytime one of those break down to the customer home or business? Micromedics is a repair shop not a international microsoft monoply based business with 100,000 employees and millions of dollars at its disposal. thatd be like sending a tech out to someones house whenever they have a problem with windows. BESTA LUCK

I know this is kind of an old thread, sorry, but I recently had a horrid experience with micromedics as well.

I work fro Circuit City, so when I got my laptop I got the extended warranty on it (accidental because I know I do dumb stuff sometimes). A year and a half passes before my three year old spilled a coke on it while I was at work. My wife called to give the bad news. I had my firedog tech ship it off to micromedics. I logged in to the agent desktop (micromedics note tracking system) daily to check up on the status. The notes clearly stated the scratches on the case which I knew about, and then stated what tehy were fixing. They replaced the logic board, the battery, and repaired the keyboard. Ok, cool, my laptop was on it's way back. I was at teh store when my laptop came back, i open it up, and almost immediately it pisses me off, the next day it gets shipped back to them. The keyboard was cleaded, but all the buttons that were damaged before were sill not right. They stuck made some wierd clicking sounds, or just did not work at all. There was a cover on teh front of the laptop (i think it was the IR sensor cover) that had been glued on, I dont even know why it was taken off. The guys fingerprint was visible in the hardened glue. The most irritating thing was the fact they had somehow created a pressure point int eh upper right hand corner of my screen. I kept noticing a really bright white area and when i looked closer I could see that something was either currently putting pressure on it, or it had something putting pressure on it that made it do that. Micromedics recieved the laptop on May 16/07. on May 18 i called and they said it was being diagnosed and the tech would update the notes when it was done. Ok, no prob. On Monday (May 21) I cehcked the notes again, and they had ordered parts, but no list as to which parts. Tuesday I look and they had replaced teh keyboard and top casing of the laptop. No mention of the screen which had been stated, photographed, and posted when we opened the claim. So I had our techs drop a note into the system asking what they were going to do about it, an hour late the claim was closed with no reply. So now I am waiting on teh laptop to get back (due Friday). They guys I work with and I are taking bets to see what is wrong with it this time. But I have already informed MicroMedics that if the screen is not fixed, it will be promptly shipped back to them once again.

With the ammount of laptops we send out to them, it is relatively few and far between that we have issues, but it just pisses me off that problem was not only NOT fixed, but they somehow created more issues than when it left.

Micro Medics
999 Forest Edge Drive
Vernon Hills, IL. 60012
Matt Sheasby - president
847-955-1200

I am very familiar with this company, and how they work. If you guys have any questions, please feel free to ask.

P.S.
I used to work for them for a long time. So I know exactly what and how they treat any laptop that comes in through the door. One thing I will add, they do suck. Especially the President. He has no clue what the techs do to the laptops. As for as BestBuy? They no longer send their laptops to Micro Medics. Also, companies like American Express (warranty services), do send very limited amount of laptops to MM. There are other warranty companies that have also dropped MM as a repair facility.

I recently had a problem with my thinkpad t43, a year and a half after I bought it from buy.com. My ext. warranty is with MM so I contacted them for a repair.

This was on May 31. My laptop was returned on June 18. I was a little annoyed at the slow turnaround (2-day shipping instead of overnight, wtf?), but relieved to have my machine back. I booted it up and it froze at the logo screen. I called MM back and it was determined that I'd have to send the laptop back.

And here I am on July 16 still waiting for my thinkpad to be repaired and sent back a second time. According to their website and their phone support, parts have been ordered and a technician is working on it.

I will most definitely never deal with this company again.

yeah, that's what happens. what they will probably will do is swap the logic - they will probably say that the unit was working fine when the unit was shipped out, but when it was returned the 2nd time, it was faulty due to the end users fault. so they will contact the warranty company and try to give them a BS problem. like liquid spill or power surge. hoping that the warranty company covers it. but usually those kinds of problems are NOT covered by any warranty company other than american express. hopefully the warranty company covers it. MM usually doesn't like to acknowledge that they make mistakes, no company does, but if they did, maybe a lot of people would be happier. eh, just my 2cence on that. good luck on your laptop.

I sent in my Acer laptop to Micro Medics with a list of what the problems were as far as I knew. I got a call about a week later. They addressed most of my concerns but then told me in addition to those that my AC adapter and my LCD screen showed signs of abuse or neglect and as such were not covered by the warranty. They said the screen was cracked. Now, it wasn't cracked when I packed it up and shipped it. I said as much. They said the box was received in good order so they did not think it was the shipping company but rather it was abused and broken by me and thus not covered. Is there a chance they could have broken it themselves and then concocted this story? It certainly was not cracked when I packed it. I am sure of it. They claim to have pictures that they are not allowed to share with me that proves the screen is cracked. Well, it may well be cracked now but that's not how I sent it in. They offered to replace it and the adapter for $530. I declined. Has anyone had a similar Micro Medics experience?

davis6zz, what MM usually does is that they give you a Work Order #. From this you should be able to access their website and take a look at any pictures or any notes that the tech has written up. If you haven't gotten one from them, then you should ask for one. And also ask if you can check the status of your laptop online, and see what they say. That's how they have done it in the past. On a side note: I usually tell everyone that I know, that if you ship your laptop to MM, make sure you have taken PLENTY of Pictures of your laptop and the current state that it's in. Inside and out. You might send your laptop in excellent condition, but what they get is something else. Good luck on your laptop adventure.

I've had my laptop sent to them too, and had questionable service. One of my laptops came back without an operating sytem after they replaced the hard drive, all my data went bye bye! I was so pissed. I'm a IT admin for a company and need to find a reliable place to send my laptops, anyone know of a place other than MM?

I would if I could, I don't have the capability to do soldering and since I'm in the Chicago area, MM is convienient since they are local? Are these guys really that bad? Reading Krashee's comments and him/her being a former employee of MM I'm just curious how they stay in business... Anyone else have any info on them or should I just look for another repair center?

Bignum1, take your unit to V.T. services or Crescent Technology

With the people that have left MM and started their own companies it sounds like they do not know how to manage, keep talent or provide a good work environment.
I heard that Lead Technology Manager you are talking about only has 1 person working for him. 1 person makes him a manager? That makes him a joke and people make fun of him behind his back. Anyways hes nothing but a bench tek and he has gotten physically harassed and shit on repeatedly by Matt just like the other teks. I told him months ago that MM doesnt care about him only the money you put in their pockets and he just said yeah I know so if he is so unhappy and still thereit is because he is stupid and ign’ant for staying.

Running your mouth about what he owner does sound more like a personal issue. Bllog about the ones who actually make decisions on how warranty companies are charged or screwed depending on your POV. Go for the sombodies not the nobodies !!!!

Just be glad your gone, just be glad your gone !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW some of your previous blog could open u up to a law suit if you are gonna blog like that dont use the same screen name 2x. Dont use ur internal NIC or Wifi card. Use a PCMCIA wireless card + go to a public Wifi spot so it is harder to track your MAC or IP address. Sound like you’re an exemployee and you know how they are + if they know where you live you may have your tires slashed too.

Hey, I know this Thread is about a half a decade old (which is like 2000 years in computer ages) but I want to throw in my 2 cents on MicroMedia.  They were really friendly on the phone, shipped a package to me right away and I had the computer fixed and back in my hand in less than a week from my call. I don't know if they Up'd their game or I was a fluke, but I think they rocked it!
