I hope they update the 8790 and the 4750, and offer the upgrade to current owners. Now that would make the nanners happy.
Hmm, with that one month delay, some of the manufacturers might just hold off another month or two and release the PCI-E M28 instead.

As for updating current models, I'm not sure if they were designed with these kinds of power requirements in mind. One article said the 9800 draws 20-30W during gaming, I think thats two to three times the 9700 power specs. It sounds like Dell already had those power specs in mind when they first designed the XPS/9100, but I don't know if other manufacturers did.

Good point on the power requirements.

Firingsquad also posted a preview. Basically the same talk, but it's fun to read.

In this article, the term "desknote" is introduced, which is great, because I'd rather have a thicker case if it means more airflow and less heat. Plus the battery life vs putting the power supply in the case is brought up in another article. I'd rather keep the battery as a built in UPS, because I think the PS is still too big and would generate too much heat.

Doh! Posted in the wrong thread.

Dell 9100 and and the XPS can be configured with the 9800 now ( old news? )

seems so... but only on the US site?

will the pci express x800 be more powerful than the ati mobility 9800? they are both based on the x800. and will it fit in say a 1.7" chasis, rather than a bulky 2.0" one? there has got be an upgrade with 8 pipes coming out for pci express, so i can upgrade an upgrade if possible.
I love to know if there will be a 4750 to PCI-E + x800 upgrade... but I don't think even Clevo know yet...

Isn't the x800 supposed to be 8 pipes? If so, it sounds like it would be the PCI-E version of the 9800... if that's true... then the 98000 might fit in 1.7"...

uhoh, when I start thinking my opinions change...

but a pci upgrade would require a newer processor. probably the 3800+, isn't that dual channel and pci-express compatible? an x800 fits in with the fx 53 and the 3800+ i think is a 934 pin socket. Any ideas?
3800 is 934.
the upgrade for x800 would have to include a new mobo with dual channel and socket 934.
dunno what you mean by the fx-53 part tho...
on a desktop you can order a an amd fx 53 with the x800. isn't the desktop x800 pci express? and wouldn't this mean that the socket 934 is pci express?
ok... now I follow you... yes that does make sense.
so it would seem that amd could be compatible with the pci-express technology. i have heard that it was intel exclusive technology, but that doesn't makes sense if the x800 can be ordered with the 3800. i bet when the 3800 mobile chip comes out, they will be using a smaller manafacturing process which will result in less heat.
here's to hoping... anyway, going home now... finished yet another day at "work"

keep posting cool stuff about the 9800
they could always use that new liquid cooling for laptop solution. i think that is rather thin and you could probably clock the gpu higher than too.

I don't know Mayaman.. the whole point of PCIE express is to save time, and most importantly money for the ODM's.. PCIE for the DTR's is very close.. I dont know if they will follow Dell and design a new board to fit the 9800 when PCIE is probably only a couple months away... Being first to market would be a big coup for Clevo with PCIE express.. plus the 8790's design chasis has changed..and the power supply is like 150 watts I believe... Here's hoping we get something soon..the waiting is killer lol

I second that.
