I suppose I'll be the first to ask: is it a legit XP CD?

It sounds like you have the CD-ROM booting first (to get that non-bootable message), so it must be something in the CD itself.

Is this an original OS CD ??
Is this the CD you received from SAGER with the laptop (if you ordered with OS)

Try putting the CD in first when the system is off and then start the system. You will be prompted (during or just after POST) as follows :-

Press any key to Boot from CD...

and you have to hit any key

if that doesnt work check in the BIOS to see if the boot sequence is CD, A, HDD...or whatever...make sure the CD is on top of the list.

Ok, let's face it, your boot CD is a boot...leg

Trust me. I know.

What difference does it make if it is a legal copy or not I have several "bootleg" copies of xp and as long as the are recorded as a bootable cd they will boot! Ofcourse I would never install one of these as they are only for testing.
