8888 display?

Thread Starter
Does anyone know if the 8888 will have the same display as the 5670 currently has? As I understand it, the 5670 has a better display than the 8887 has now and that is the only reason that I would wait for the 5680.

trust me - I have SEEN both displays and as long as you are in front of the laptop (where I am assuming you will be ) then there is no difference between the 8887 screen and the 5670 screen.

The 8887 screen in my opinion has slightly better color definition than the 5670 (very slight) and almost as good viewing angles.

If the laptop is not going to be the primary home theatre then the 8887 screen is not lacking in any way...

When is the 8888 coming out?

After July is the latest word.

I was hoping to give this great site some kudos and buy from PCTorque, but I would have needed a laptop by end of May, with the news of a new widescreen 17" coming out I could have managed until beginning of June without... oh boy, what can I say...

... Dude, I am probably getting a Dell.

... unless somebody could convince me that a widescreen 15.4" is useless for photoshop, standard 15" is better, longer battery life doesn't matter, and I'll get the 5670

So the 8888 is going to have a 17" screen?

Man, i'm confused... again.

800FSB, M10, and 17" Screen?

Does this mean maybe space for another battery? Or ?

Sheesh.

Anyone know what the current rumors are for the TOTAL changes going to be made? Full size keyboard? Touchpad? Larger screen? Another battery? Still have TV Tuner and MP3 player? Or ? ? ?

I'm sorry, but they stated notebooks would be out in May? Did ATI and them lie? I don't know about Sager or Clevo speficially though. End of july seems a bit late to me considering they also said that the PRO version would follow the nonpro, and that the pro would be out in Summer... well.. were closing into summer fast. I'd love to know some solid timetables .

We should hear something concrete from them real soon I should think, hopefully anyway.

After July, has been said many times, and thats only for the m10, nothing else is as certain as that, no change to the models at least.

Your talking about Sager only right?

I wonder who's going to have notebooks now then.

Dell will most likely get the new stuff first. They had the 4200 go before anyone else and they're probably the biggest market for gaming and desktop replacement laptops. The July date is refering to when Sager's model will come out.

If you want a 17" display get the Apple otherwise no one else has them out for production. At least Clevo has some kind of release date and people can see what the machines look like. What does PCTorque have to do with any of this speculation? They are probably as impatient as the rest of us for the new machines to come out as there is a lot of money waiting out here for the new boxes. All these threads asking stupid questions about the 8888 and 5680 are mental masturbation and nothing more. Everyone needs to take a chill pill and shut the hell up. When Clevo puts out a press release then you can start getting excited. Does anyone actually know the release dates or "exactly" what will be there... nope. Unless they have inside connections at clevo or know someone on the know. Be thankful of the information you have.

Is it PCTorque's fault that you have a deadline to get something?

NO!!!

You might want to look at those delivery dates on the dells that you can order as well. I've seen plenty of posts in their forums about availability and people waiting for a month or more for their machines to actually get boxed and shipped.

as i recall ati has just released the chips now.. it takes time to get them into motherboards and such..
ATI released the chips to manufacturers in April, due for a release of notebooks in May.
ATI started shipping the chips a week or so ago. The manufacturers have already designed there products. They just need the chips to start the production line. The 9600 has already appeared on online retailers. So it should not be very long before we see them in laptops.

Everything I have seen has indicated that ATI would have its new M10 chips SHIPPING in laptops released in May. Most likely that will really happen with the range of laptops set to be released in June. Quite frankly I am really suprised that Clevo is so far behind the 8-ball with an 8888 M-10 release in August and an 5680 M-10 release in October.

Alienware has just announced a new laptop with the 800Mhz front side bus (i.e. 800 Mhz is springsdale so it can be assumed 400 Mhz RAM), magnesium alloy case, 16.1" UXGA, 802.11g, etc... Looks like they must have switched to an OMD besides Clevo. I think Clevo/Sager should speed their launch date or they stand to loose the marketshare of gamers/enthusiasts that are looking to purchase a laptop before they go back to school (i.e. need to purchase in May-July)...especially with their mantra being that they incorporate the latest technology the fastest...

where have you seen august and october release dates? also 1 of the reasons clevo isnt rushing to release in june is because they are also waiting on a mb upgrade to the 800 mhz bus and such... possibly could have a realease in june all dates right now are pretty much just speculation
