I bought a new mouse, but my older laptop didnt have the right port so i got an adapter to make the port into a usb one. Anyway, it isnt plug and play, so i go to control panel and then to mouse. then harware and i press the mouse name. Then i press enable as the default mouse. All goes weel except when i restart/shut down my system, i have to go through this process all over again. Any reason y?

First of all, what are you doing buying a PS/2 mouse, i didn't even think they still made those..lol
USB mice will ussually (always in my case) auto detect, and work right away, sounds like the PS/2 won't do that for you. Grab a cheap USB mouse and see if you still have the problems. I have several Microsoft Intelli 4.0 (side scroll) sitting around, brand new. $20 bucks if you're interested. And USB mice some with adapters for PS/2, maybe in reverse you won't have the problems.
