This thing is pretty Cool!!!
I thought it was a bit heavy so I weighed it...
With the floppy,battery(1) and the DVD/CDRW it is 9.6 lbs.!!!!!!!
My Dull 7000 is about 1lb lighter....
I'm now glad that I didn't get the 8886!!!
I do alot of traveling for work and I thought lugging my Dull around was bad!!!! If it weighed 12 lbs I would have get Pumped Up!
The only other thing I don't like is styling seems dated...
Ok, I'm over it....

I'm currently loading EVERYTHING!!!!!

Gotta go!!!

Thanks again Adam!!!
:-) Congrats! Lol, you actually weighed it eh? I'm surprised you thought the styling was old... if that's what you meant. Alienware is supposedly teh latest and greatest and they use it just with different colors, lol. Same style though. Let us know how it goes and if there are any probs! Good luck!
Could you be more specific in your comments about the style beign dated? Do you mean the way it looks, or the layout of keyboard, buttons, touchpad...

About how much does the power cord add to all of that? They have figures from the company but I thought I'd see if you included that or not. I also imagine a dual batt setup would weigh differently (depending on whether the disk drive weighs different then the second battery). Hope everything works out well!

Ok, I look like the total PC Geek!!
Dualing laptops, CD's everywhere, Power adapters everywhere...

Let's see, the styling is cool from the front, but the left side in particular, the open vents just look like they were from some 80's toy of some kind..
I think it is mostly from being silver...You can see all of the parting lines... I did say I was over it.??....

No, the power cord was not with it when I weighed it.
Single battery also.

Crap, I hope I didn't hit a nerve with everybody!!!!

I like the layout of everything, its close to my Dull 7000 (almost identical!!!)

I'M STILL HAPPY!!!!
Yeah, I know Alien is the same thing, but that Green that they have...That would have made it all better!!!!!
You would be pukin so much you wouldn't see the vents!!
(actually I thought the Green was cool...different)
So this system didn't come with a bag like Powernotebooks.
I was going to buy a new one anyway...
So, has anyone figured out what the heck is so heavy in this thing????
It's mostly rear weighted....The battery is fairly light, not like my Dull.

Back to loaden!!!!

Later....

Sweet, lol, no, you hit no nerves on my end. I was just askin :-) I like to hear the info. Glad to hear the battery is actually light. And yeah, the vents are ordinary, but wow are they good to have with a desktop processor, lol, the lappy is well designed in that sense. I'd rather have it look a lil 80s (if that's how it looks, lol) than fry :-) Other lappies, like toshiba I've heard, looked better and fried. Sager at least designed them with longevity in mind. :-)

Whawhoooo!!!!

I'm now wireless!!!! And on my 5660!!!
I had some problems with the pcmcia slot... Don't know why...
Trouble/shtr said drivers not installed...
3rd time was a charm....

Battery just died after being on and off (suspend)since about 5pm (9now)...

Still happy!!!!
Keep up the great and frequent updates! :-) The drivers didn't install til the third time? DId you do it in the order specified by the instructions? (drivers install, restart, plug in card, etc?) I don't know what the order actually is, but that is generally the order for stuff like that in my experience.

What are the prices on wireless service where you guys live?
When i get my 5660, i'll mainly use it to access the already congested school wireless network... so getting access from a provider would be sweet if the price is right.

Prices on wireless service? Hmm... The only reason I'm confused is that I've never heard of a wifi service provider :-) Do you mean wireless as in cellular? Or is there something I'm ignorant of? :-) Thanks for the help!

Hehehe, the shipping weight of my 8886 is 19 pounds according to UPS.
And that's with only 1 HD, 1 DVD, and no extra external accessories.
Of course, that includes the box,
[EDIT]NO backpack
and all the stuffing.
I don't even pretend that the high end Sagers are 'laptops'... I prefer to think of them as 'portable', all-in-one desktops.

Agreed... but my friends tell me to get those little tiny towers that are desktops but "portable" and I'm like... well, hello, you can't just pick those up and go. You need to carry a monitor, disconnect all of the cables with peripherals when you move it, you can't use it on battery at all, you can't use it on a plane, in a car, on trips period. Etc etc. :-)

Regarding the wireless service bebster83, at least here in NY there is a wireless service that you can acess with your wifi card. The company has transmiting stations all over the city so you get decent coverage. A classmate had it, i don't recall what the company name is but it was rather expensive.
Phew... they must have a lot of access points... And my gosh can't people easily hack into that thing and use it? As far as I've heard, wifi access points aren't that hard for neighbors to get into and use. Obviously there are some protective services, but from what I've heard they are not that hard to circumvent nowadays...

I wonder, is it 802.11a or b? A would be potentially lots faster, but I think b is better on distance and obstacles in the way of the transmitter (lol, walls, for example). Anyone know?

Note: Sagerforums was down last night when I tried to post...
Here it is a lotta of hours later!!

Well, after many hours of going oohhh, awwww, Most of Bill's programs are loaded.
AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME!
I opened a couple of high res pics and it's amazing..
Double click and it's open before you finger can move!!!!
I gotta get some good GAMES!!!!
Any suggestions????
PLAYING DVD'S IS MOST EXCELLENT!!!!!

I don't know what the heck was going on with the WiFi driver before.
I followed the exact order as in the manual!!
I did it the right way first, wrong way second and right way 3rd.
Guess I was going for experience????
Seems like I had the problem before when I went WiFi.
The wifi card is a Dlink650...

I also had a problem with the USB controller...Looked like it installed but when I went back to device manager, still had an exclamation mark.
Went to Via's site and they say get it from Bill. Went to Bill's site and couldn't find it.
Then it hit me...duh, what about Sagers site???
Huh, go figure, they have an updated USB driver for W2K!!!
Now it works fine....
Not bad, only 2 slight driver problems, no crashes, no hangs,
NO BLUE SCREENS!!
This has by far been the easiest system I have ever worked on!!

Crap, I gotta go to work in 4hrs!!!!!(its 2am)
Vortrex
I have a home network and I'm not on anyones service.
Gotta love your cable company!!!
Dont have any idea of what it costs in Nor Cal.
Allright...Sleep time....

It was most likely 802.11a, (not sure) and the coverage is better in the busiest city places (Manhattan). You acess them via login and password so i guess they are not too worried about people breaking into their service (who knows)

On a related note, check this out:
Wireless service throughout the US
Wow... talk about sweetness if they worked that out :-) Lots better than a cellphone IMO, lol, less microwaves. Just carry your sager around and use it (and laugh at all the people with little cellphones who think they're all hard). Kinda a funny prospect.
