SONY Grv670 questions/help

Ive owned this GRV670 for about a year now. Its a full p4 2.6gig, 512megs of ddr2100 ram. This afternnon in the airport it just stopped working and the screen turned BRIGHT blue. This all happened after I was playing Starcraft. So I get home and take out one of the ram chips from one of the bays and it boots up. I took out the "good" chip from the bay, and put it the "bad" chip and it still booted. Im thinking right now that one of the ram slots is bad, is that possible? and what can I do to get it fixed and what would be a cost of getting it fixed, the warranty has expired and Sony is full of jackasses on the phone. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Thanks,
Shawn

I have a GRX550, myself, and I've read that Vaio's have a problem with bad/loose RAM sockets. So yeah, it's possible. If it were me, I'd make them fix it or get a replacement.

Its out of warranty now, any tips on how to get them to do it for me? I dont feel like paying a ****load of money since Im a college student to have this fixed, when I could just buy a 512 chip of ram and stick it in the good slot. Its out of warranty by like 10 days or something, so I hate sony right now.

I haven't had to deal with Sony as of yet, so I'm not sure how they are. You might try calling and appealing to their human side (if they have one.. judging from the over-priced nature of their stuff, I doubt it). Since it's just went out of warranty and it's a fairly common problem from what I've read on the net, you might catch a break. Failing that, I think I'd probably just opt for the single larger stick of RAM, as that would be much cheaper than buying a Sony motherboard.

Good luck!
