Hi, windows is unable to detect my dlink wireless network card, I have a 5150, I have internet access thru the built in wireless card with the dell, I tried disabling the dell one and still windows couldn't find it, its big pain in the butt, if anyone could tell me how to fix this, that would be awesome thanks

Did you install drivers for the DLink yet?

Also, if the new DLink one is an 'external' PCMCIA one then remember often they have an on/ off switch.

Whats wrong with the internal card?

proprietary speed hardware that 99% of users don't/can't use.

installed all drivers and even the one from dlink site, couldn't find the on off switch on the pcmcia card, internal card doesn't give a strong enough signal as my router is in the basement and i'm upstairs......... it seems like a windows issue, just unsure how i can force windows to recognize theres a new hardware installed...

I think it got screwed up because i had it inserted already while installing windows so it never got to do the plug n play, dang... guess i might have to format again.... unless a super windows expert can figure out a way for windows to recongize the card, i did the add new hardware thing to no avail

Is there anything in the device manager that might be the wireless card? If so uninstall it and reboot. If that doesnt work try the add new hardware wizard and see if it can find it.

Insert the D-Link card in another laptop and boot it.

If it finds it then you probably have problems with your PCMCIA slot itself.

If it does not find it then the D-Link card is most likely defective.

At this stage that seems to be the goer.

Actually before I re-formatted the comp, the dell came with everything installed, I just put in the PCMCIA card in and it detected and the signal was great and everything, but then when I reformatted again, I left the card in, but it was never detected when windows came up, then when I put re-insert the card it makes this weird sound descending scale instead of ascending(the sound when u get when hardware is found).....so not sure how I can force windwos to recongize it, I guess I might have to re-format again with the card out...

Re-formatted the comp with the card out, then put it after install of win xp, it found it right away and things are ok now
