Curious Problem with 8790 Fans

Hey,

I have had an 8790 for almost a month now and absolutely love it! There was a slight glitch with it initially in regards to being shipped with a defective motherboard, but after a week since it was fixed, if i Fn+F10 the fans onto high speed and shut down the computer, the fans stay on max power even after the laptop has powered down. I was wondering if anyone knows what causes this and if it could easily be fixed. Thanks!

I would suspect that it is a faulty motherboard. I would be real cautious of running highly CPU tasks for long periods of time on it. Sounds like you should contact Sager again and possibly RMA it. Not a good sign.

I already RMAed it once, which was how i found out it was a defective motherboard. Sager replaced the motherboard and shipped it back to me. So do you believe that they could have installed a faulty motherboard to replace the originial one or could some software / windows boot or configuration file somehow become corrupted to cause this problem. I am not having any other issues with this laptop and as of right now, more of an annoyance since i must remember to either take the fans off high speed or unplug the laptop.

You indicated that the Fn+F10 caused the computer to shut down and thereafter the fans stayed on. If this is the case, maybe something was not attached/configured correctly (hardware wise) when your new motherboard was installed. I'd call Sager and get their opinion on it. Let us know what they say.

Im sorry, i omitted a "then" in the original post. My problem is this:

I commonly use fn+f10 to keep my fans on full blast to make sure my computer stays cool.
If i leave it on this setting, and then shut down the computer, the fans stay on this high power mode even though the computer has shut down and powered off.

This is only a recent development and I was wondering what the cause could be and how i might be able to fix this.

Thanks!

Different story. Don't know the answer. I'd still contact Sager and get their thoughts on this.

Thanks, I'll do it tomorrow, and perhaps call PCTorque's support tonight. I appreciate your time and help you have provided!

I have the same problem. If I use Fn/F10 to put the fans in high gear and then shut the computer down the fans just keep on running. I shut the unit down last night and they were still running this morning. The only way I can stop them is by unplugging the power adapter. I bought this laptop last week and it has been doing it since the first day.

had the same problem.. Totally related to the bios update for the fan stuff. RMAed it for other reasons(artifacts) and got it back with a new motherboard, thinking about doing the bios update again just to stop the idle full blast fan cycle crap.

I'd think that you would have received the new BIOS with the new motherboard.

I bought this 8790 from PCTorque only last week so it should have the latest BIOS.

maybe it's a windows setting....like when you shut down windows and it does not automatically turn your computer off....

check in your power management settings (in control panel)..for advanced power management support...make sure it's enabled.......
that's just a shot in the dark!

good luck

does anyone have the problem where turning on the high fans (fn + f10) actually shuts down the computer?

I had the issue that when I hit fn+f10 the fans would go on high and would remain on even after powering off. Contacted Sager and they sent me a newer BIOS.
After I flashed my 8790 with the new BIOS I now have the issue that if I hit fn+f10 the fans kick on high for a while but after some time the lappy just shuts down with no warning leaving the fans on high until i remove the power-cord.

I have contacted Sager about this but haven't gotten an answer yet.

I had Version 1.00.03 and they upgraded me to 1.00.06
