8600 appearance

I will be getting my 8600 within the week. I really only have one complaint about the looks of the lappy, the stupid blue accents on the palmrest. Is there a way to change these without replacing the whole palmrest? If not, can I buy an 8600 palmrest that doesn't have the blue accents? Thanks guys

The only thing you can do is a chassis swap to get the non-blue palmrest. That's under the Mods sticky.

Make sure you read Spiike's painting tutorial.

Note it may be a chore to get the accents off to paint them.... they are attached to the palmrest.

tape around the accents...easy as pie

Well if you do that be careful to remove and replace the tape after every coat... or you will end up with leaks onto the palmrest, or the paint peeling off in some areas with the tape. So tape, spray, dry, peel and re-tape, spray, dry, peel, etc...

If you do that good luck, and post some pics for us

Apparently chrome finish paint is nigh on impossible to achieve. If anyone has experience with it and knows what are the best products to use for it, please share.

i was thinking more about using like model car paint, as opposed to spray paint. it would take longer, but i could get a thicker coat. If i end up painting the damn thing, I will probably buy the top plastic peice that you peel up to take the keyboard off (not sure of the name) and trying painting that to see how easy/hard it would be, and how long it would take to dry etc. Now I am getting excited. If i do end up going through with it, I will take pictures through the process, and post them with a walk through of what i did.
