New Netgear Router

Hey guys, I hope you can help me out. I just got a new netgear router and everything went smoothly during setup. I can access the internet just fine with one exception. When trying to access my hotmail account, the connection hangs infinitely never loggin in. Anyone know why that might be happening? Thanks in advance.

interesting. I just bought a new Netgear WGR614 wireless router also. No problems except for sending email from outlook. I just had to adjust the MTU for that. I have no such problem with Hotmail.

Oh yeah...I have been losing connection to the internet every couple of days also...but it is easily fixed by just turning off the router then turning it back on. It actually could be the modems fault though. I need to figure that out.

I have the same model you have. Haven't had any problems other than the one I am describing so far.

Anyone else have any ideas as to how I can get this thing working correctly?

Hook your computer directly up ot the cable modem and try hotmail... if you still have the same problems then it is likely the cable modem and not the router...

if not then i would go into the routers settings and see if hotmail was added to the list of restricted websites... im not home so i forget what menu that is under but i believe its under like "access & restrictions"

If your running a firewall check that hotmail has been dissalowed.
Check your host file that you havent changed hotmail.com location

Check your Browser settings to make sure hotmail hasnt been dissalowed.

I dont think that would be a router problem since hotmail is just standard port 80 http.
also it could be something between your isp and hotmail not being connected propery

After much research I finally got it figured out! The routers MTU setting was too high. I lowered it from 1500 to 1400 and it is now working like a charm. Thanks for the suggestions guys.
