cl51/cl56 keyboard compatibility

Does teh CL51 and CL56 use the same keyboard? I just want to make sure if it would be fine ordering a "COMPAL CL51/AT23 KEYBOARD ENGLISH (US)" from ncix.com since they dont have a "COMPAL CL56 KEYBOARD ENGLISH (US)" available.

I'm assuming they should be compatible otherwise they wouldn't list another product that says "FR CL51/CL56/AT23 FRENCH KEYBOARD CDN"

CL50 keyboards and CL56 keyboards are compatible....ive used the same one.... seeing that the CL51 chasis is near exact.... shouldnt be a problem.... but heh.... compal should know...

I've owned both the cl50 and the cl51. The two have slightly different keyboards, if I remember correctly. They might be sized the same, but they are different in look. The cl50 has semi-transparent keys. The cl51 does not. I think the body of the cl56 is nearly the same as the cl50, minus the color, so I'd go with the keyboard of the cl50 before the cl51.

The keyboards for the CL50/51/56 are all the same type; they're interchangable. I've seen two keyboards, both made by Zippy. One is transparent, where they keys are "smoked" but you can see through them. The other is solid black.

I was looking for keyboard retailers a couple of weeks ago, and the only ones I found were Canadian. I did find one US retailer with a transparent keyboard, but they wanted $130 for it (WTF?!?).

Try contacting ChemUSA (www.chemusa.com) and see if you can order one direct.

Try http://www.jetta.com and look up parts for the 9520. This is their version of the cl56. I believe the keyboard was around $50.

Zippy INTL PK13CL51000

You can see the list posted by rincewind of CL56 parts. This is what I found. You can verify the P/N. It shows the substring 'CL51' (PK13-CL51-X00). It seems compatible.

Hope it helps!

oh. im in canada guys but thx for the links.
There are a couple stores that are selling them for $13Can here. I still don't understand why it is so expensive in the States for you guys. Well, it seems like this canadian company called Bizcom is the main supplier for a majority of the compal barebones/accesories being sold here. That could be a reason why the keyboards are so available here.

btw. Translucent or solid? which do you guys prefer

Thanks for looking that up. I checked his thread on those parts listings and for some reason, I didn't find keyboards on it.

I think he kind of "ripped" the sheet. Anyway, you can get it by accessing the FTP site of Compal, using the procedures that rincewind used. If you don't make any harm to its server, I think they wouldn't sue you... I mean, we are promoting its product... Lots of people will buy a CL56 now everyone knows you can replace the LCD and other things. And you know exactly the model! p/n

And anytime you need, just ask, even if we don't know what you're asking...
