Two question por favor, Myrkat: Did you ever get yours to work? If no did the card not work in the router either?

And to anyone, do all of the G compatible routers come with the card needed? If no which router is needed to be purchased.. THanks!

Is the router usable?

For us newbies, can someone clarify this question?

Kramer mentioned at the top of the thread that the router was still usable after extracting the miniPCI card. What was the use of the card in the router for and is the functionality limited and in what way after the card is removed?

Thanks.

NO. Never got it to work. Worked fine in the router, tho... so card was OK. Like I said, XP found the card (miniPCI "g" linksys) and installed latest drivers, just couldn't get a signal.

Like the antenna wasn't compatible or something... oh well.

as far as I have seen , the mini-pci card provided nothing more than the wireless capabilities of the router.

so far I have not noticed any missing functionality on the router other than the original defect. (and the wireless capabilities, of course)

Myrkat:
sorry to hear it never worked out for you. I wonder why?

Wonder if compusa exchanges defective routers

Hmm, Actually i think you might be able to have a wireless router after this, (Assuming you got the internal 802.11b option with the laptop when ordering) couldn't you most likely just replace the g minipci card in the router with the 802.11b card from the laptop?

well folks, i've discovered this a+b+g mini-pci card, which is sold to the public via one of their small distributor's ebay store. it appears to be compatible, when i receive next week i'll hopefully be writting back with good news.

with shipping, insurance and ebay fees paid by the buyer, the total comes to $117. for the time constrained, this will hopefully be a winner for those of us not looking forward to the disecting of the linksys 54g router...although Kramer...you are a friggin genius for fabricating that solution from a bonafide router.

gr8gatzby, Make sure to keep us posted and write a nice step by step thing forthose of us who like not to think...

curious, how much is that linksys 54g router, and how many people here have already gone that route?

Adam, is it possible to buy the Internal Wireless Antenna from PCTorque. I have a 5660, that was shipped prior to Internal Antennas being installed.

Any help would be great, thanks

I wonder

Anyone wonder if the Dlink DI-614+ uses mini pci? I want to replace my Mini pci 802.11g card with a dlink card as I use the DI-614+

Thanks

follow the a+b+g mini-pci link in my sig for instructions to perform the operation without having to purchase the access point.

WRT54G

Just picked up the WRT54G router from amazon for $66.88. I was a little shocked they had it for that low of a price. Went back later and it was back up to $109.00. Guessed they realized they made a mistake. Bought it just in time!

One question, its posible put speeds up to 108 Mbps in turbo mode with the Linksys miniPCI card?
Wow, resurrecting a long-dead thread... anyway, I had tried a regular 802.11g linksys miniPCI and did not get it to work (though windows found and installed the drivers, etc.). Another user (kramer?) DID get his to work, so it's not a sure thing that a linksys will work, let alone the newer 108's.

Sorry I can't be of much more help,
