When is the new card being shipped approximately for upgrade?
I am planning to buy a sweet voodoo laptop and If dell gets the new vid card in mid august, then hopefully all other companies also and as of yet, I only know about dell having the 9800 upgrade option

Don't know exactly yet, some reports say mid- late August though.

Noticed that as well, wonder when they'll have 'em at Dell Spare parts? Wanna stick one in this 9100 and get me a 3.4 .
anyone got a price yet ?
One of the articles said $399 for the upgrade.
yuck, that means we got ripped off cause if we buy a NEW XPS from Dell, it only cost 179 over the 9700 that's BS
post #9 of 16
$400? eek.

I se that it's "available" but it will delay your ship date. I guess that means it's not really "available".
It should SHIP mid-August. They always pre-announce and then ship later
post #11 of 16
lol...well, by the time it gets to me, i'll have enough time to check it out and review it before Sager hopefully sticks a 9800 in the 4750, in which case the 9100 is OUTTA HERE and PCTorque will have yet another satisfied customer. why won't i just stick with a dell? i swore to myself 3 years ago that i would never buy another dell, my dimension 8200 is/was terrible and because of that i'm afraid of giving another 4 figures of money to them...

IMO... an extra $270 for a video card with marginally better performance isn't really worth it

i'd rather get a Sager with a better processor and screen for that much money

anyone know when the X600 cards will be available... I think they'd be worth the extra $$$

marginally better performance?

dude, the mobile 9700 benches around 3400 in 3dmark03, whereas the mobile 9800 benches around 5500 on 3dmark03

that my friend is "marginally" better performance

Well let me educate y'all a bit. If you look at ATI's website, it clearly states that the 9800 will whoop the x600's ass. As far as the cost to upgrade, the card is only $179 above the 9700's cost. Now what does the 9700 cost? You think Dell is going to take back all of the 9700's they sold us and take a hit in the pocket too? You all must be stupid. This card is well worth the $400 they ask. We are all paying 5-600 for the desktop variants and these are "custom made" for us. We are lucky the price is that low.

NOW STOP WHINING!!!!
(well.. whining to dell, cause of their continuous screw ups, got me a free gig of ram, a UXGA upgrade, and 7200RPM drive. Maybe Ill whine for one of these too...... or pay... it does look sooooo gooood! )

you're right... i thought that the mobility 9700 was to the mobility 9800 what the 9700 desktop was to the 9800 desktop- it seems this isn't the case

the tom's hardware article explains this nicely

how could the mobility 9800 be more powerful than the upcomin x600?

The Mobility x600 is a Mobility 9700 with a PCI-Express interface and a couple of LCD extras added in. The Mobility 9800 is a Desktop x800 core with 8 pixel pipelines, 4 vertex pipelines, and a lower clock speed.
