A co-worker of mine was going to buy the 600m when I showed him the 700m. He kind of likes it. Smaller, lighter, uses DDR2 RAM.

ewww... and how is that supposed to be a 300m replacement... its 1.5"... boo that notebook

Ummmm, correct me if I am wrong, but it uses the Intel 855GME chipset, which is not compatible with DDR2. Would use normal DDR RAM at 266MHz or 333MHz.

Yeah, I always seem to give a little more detail than needed, or not enough, can't seem to find the middle ground

Definitely not DDR2.

It's not bad. A little heavy, but otherwise pretty compact and feature-packed. Actually, I think it has the best color scheme of the other notebooks I've seen that are based on this ODM design.

no it works out good this way. you provide a method to my madness when i am too lazy to do so.

While I'm not posting "on topic" per say, I'd like to throw an apology out to AnyMan who I so often doubted. Nothing personal man, just promoting critical thinking and hoping people remember that they can't always believe everything they read, especially on the internet.

Too bad they don't offer the optical bay TV-tuner/MPEG encoder option like the Hitachi. That would've been a nice option.
Well, I like the open-face and LCD cover colors, but I don't know why they went with black for the lower half. They should've kept it all silver/white.

Hitachi for comparison

Anyone have a guess as to whether this model will be on display in Dell stores today?
Not bad at all...I think the version of this Uniwill model that Cyberpower is selling, the Xplorer-WL, is better looking than the 700m. The WL also offers more CPU options.

Thats an easy one...nope 'cause Dell doesn't have stores.

I don't count lame mall kiosks...

***Guess you've never been in their Twin Falls, ID store. They've got one in Clackamas, OR as well. Twin Falls is about the size of a Best Buy/Circuit City...

I looked on the website, still doesn't say how long the battery life is, or how big the 8 cell batt sticks out... Grumph.

Yeah, it's uglier than it needs to be, but that's why God created paint and stickers. The Aopen was a little cleaner looking, but it's no surprise Dell needed their name badged all big on the lid...

They don't have customizable ones on the site yet, so I'm waiting to see what the Dothan chip, a 512 or gig of RAM in the "non-user-config" slot, and the battery costs. If I get one, I'll be sure to post pics of the "before" (ugly) and after "painted coyote tan and olive drab" (even uglier) look like.

I might buy one.

Heh... I didn't know that. I guess thats why some have to pay state sales tax.

***'Course, you know in Oregon, they don't HAVE state sales tax, right?

Two reasons to drive over to Clackamas to buy a Dell: Real people to talk to to sell it, no sales tax.
