WUXGA worth the money? - Page 2

pugnj:

Concerning your WSXGA+/WUXGA question, see the following fresh threads

I could post a screenshot with Visual Studio.NET 2003, but it would look bare (I've not used it so far; only needed for Intel's Fortran). Hopefully other users will chime in.

V.B. was kind enough to post a screenshot of WUXGA with Visual Studio in

http://notebookforums.com/357248

To see true sizes of fonts, you may print this screenshot, as explained in

http://notebookforums.com/showthread...869#post354869

Unfortunately V.B. is using 120 DPI, so in fact his fonts looked bigger by about 9% than on WSXGA+ at 96 DPI.

AxiomofIllusion:

Could you post a screenshot of your screen (to illustrate your VS setup for pugnj) in the following thread

http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=34061

(Just hit the Prnt Scrn key, open Paint, press Ctrl-V to paste the image, save as PNG, and attach to your post.)

Hmm, well, my widescreen 22-inch flat panel monitor on my apple G5 is the same resolution as WUXGA, and text can seem pretty small on it. and it's uh, 22 inches.

Are you talking about a 22.2" 16:10 aspect ratio WUXGA 1920x1200 screen? If yes, this screen has 102 PPI (pixels per inch). This is close to 15.4" WXGA with 98 PPI, whereas for 15.4", WSXGA+ has 129 PPI, and WUXGA has 147 PPI.

So, unless Apple's OS employs fonts much smaller than those in WinXP, or your eyes are poor, I don't know what you are talking about.

well, i don't know what I'm talking about either!
I didn't buy the 22 incher i mentioned (it's at the office) so I don't know actually. I was just looking at all those pixels and trying to imagine compressing it into the area of a 15.4 and it seemed like a lot. No, my eyes aren't bad. Things don't seem small on that display. I mean, they seem like, on the small side and if they got smaller (like, say, by being on 15.4) then they'd be really really small....

I am so confused by DPI vs resolution. any help? How can you adjust the dpi and maintain the same resolution??
