To think, for a cutting edge lappy that prided itself on upgradeable graphics, honestly braingoo, i don't see how you can forgive AW for keeping you TWO generations behind the rest of the competition. So much for upgradeable graphics. And so much for "the ultimate gaming machine"

on a different note though, i think it'll only take time before AW realizes they can't ignore the mobile market and they begin to take their lappy division a bit more seriously and start pumping out cutting edge stuff like they are doing in the desktop space
Oh by all means I have not forgiven them yet im just giving them the befit of the doubt for now. Like I sadi before if one of those conditions is not met by the time I need to upgrad. Then my money from then on out will goe else ware. That is how you have to deal with big companies is take you business elseware when they do not live up to your expectation. How ever what I was saying earlier is that I have yet to find a game my 9600 can not play I'm sure it wil play doom3 at an acceptable level for me and probably halflife 2 as well. I will however be in the market for a new desktop computer in the next 5 to 6 months as well as needing an upgrade for my laptop. If alienware does not come through with said upgrade for my laptop. I will also go elseware to buy my new desktop. Or I may just build my self. Im still on the fence about that depends on how much time\money I have at my disposal. I was jsut praising the quality o fthe laptop I have currently wich is great but the quality oc Customer Car we are getting from this company is not so great they are treating this as if it where no big deal but in the end if they don't find a solution they will be out alot of new business on my end.

Wow diesel i didnt mean to affend you!

jeez remb im one person. Theres always a few people who get done over. I mean AW theres ppl who get done over there. I really am sorry to affend you that much!

Just so you know. What problems i have had with 1 of my laptops form them. (i ave also had other laptops that worked after few drivers problems not unexpected)

Ordered 1.7celeron got 1.2celerong
Ordere English Keyboard Got spanish
Ordered English Software I got ALL the software in spanish
(i do h8 how they put all those trials on you machine. speically when there in a forgien language lol)

I contacted them and they gave me some crappy excuse saying they dont deliver to me. (at that point i wondered how i got 2 laptops from them lol)

Anyway this laptop is very good. Its very powerful considering its hardware. I dont even mind having a smaller celeron **** happeneds! just they wouldnt even send me a new keyboard. Thus its not stopping me buying more. since they are the best pc money can buy. but they are worth a reformatting to get all that ****ty software off.

Byfar dell is perfect for buisness and home users. but there support isnt ace (which really does depend on time/place/who beacuse i have had freinds who got gr8 support)

Lets all remember Hardware doesnt make the pc

EDIT : I oly had a 10 day return policy and it took 11days to get to me and when i found some1 who understood they delivered here they said return policy is out of date.

Im actually about 2 buy 2 more dell latittudes. beacuse i know companis can change. and they have been getitng good press.

but hay evry1 in the world s bias to what they own. and every1 has an opionin.

U got a dell. u belive dell are amazing
I got AW i think they are amazing.

If they have the same specs (dont know yur specs) then they are both amazing its more physcological lol.

I perosnally think building your own is best since you can do what you want. just prebuilt ones are more convient sometimes

And that's just for new AW purchasers. Forget about all of you 51m2 owners who bought the lappy with the 9600, AW STILL doesn't offer you guys the 9700 for direct purchase. And even if you were allowed to today, most of you won't be able to use it due to motherboard incompatibilities or some other bullcrap like that.

And to think that not too long ago, the product manager for the 51m2 came on these forums and said that the industry was moving to pci-e, and that there would be no future AGP card from ATI for lappies and blah blah blah, so current 51m2 owners could expect no "upgrade" beyond the 9700. Essentially he passed the blame onto intel and ati, and the industry, everyone was at fault BUT AW, and most of you bought off on that, including myself to a certain extent. However it's now obvious that AW has no "pull" within the industry since they were completely blindsided by the mobile 9800.

I think it will take AW at least 3-4 months if not 6 months to ready the new mobile 9800 for use in existing AW 51m2 lappies, and i think most of you AW owners will agree with this assessment. But i think by then, the competition, like Dell and Sager would have moved onto the next gen graphics cards/pci-e. So unless AW fundamentally changes something, reallocates resources, reprioritzes their laptop business, they will continuously be behind the curve as far as new technology is concerned (51m2 still doesn't have dual channel ram, dvi-output, dual layer dvd burner, etc.)
You read my mind, Deisel.

i'm not offended in the least. i just take exception to people making blanket statements categorizing all of a company's machines based on one experience.

by the way i don't believe that my ixps is amazing. but i do think performance wise it belongs near the top. the 5690 is prob the best gaming performance wise based purely on benchmarks but when the ixps gets the 9800, it will be the best out there. Until something better comes along, whether that's from dell or someone else.

as far as desktops go, i probably would never buy a dell desktop. i probably would never buy an AW one as well. i'm not saying they're crappy desktops, but having done it before, i would build one again. it's a matter of preference and pride
post #26 of 82
Agreed,

Yet mine wast based on 1 experince. I never said dell was crap i just said 1 major slip up that never got resolved. (and it wasnt a problem its was a mistake which could be fixed) you may of not read my edit which explains this.

Building a workstation is the way to go. you can build it the way you want. and they can normally get half the cost

I completely agree with you. I WAS THE FIRST TO CALL AW OUT ON THEIR BULL$HIT and well most of the fanboys on this board who purchased their AW's after me jumped down my throat. I have from day one said that they have been misleading and not fully open with its customers. For them to sell me an upgradeable notebook only to, as it appears, give up on it really pisses me off.

OF COURSE...I love my notebook but I would have loved an Inspiron 8600 just as much for a lot less. That is what all those morons who jump on my case need to understand. This notebook is awesome...true, but for me I would have not spent the extra money unless there was justification. I justified it by thinking that it would be upgradeable. If I knew it would be only good for a generation then I would have gone with something a lot less and then bought another notebook a year later.

Oh well, as Brain says, all we can do is wait and hope they correct the wrongs of the past. Maybe I can get a 9700 while over at dell.com you can right now order and ixps or i9100 with a 256mb 9800...
notebook gamer, yeah everyone jumped down your throat when you started that thread. i couldn't understand why. i guess there are a lot of AW fan boys who think AW can do no wrong
post #29 of 82
Much like there are Dell fanboys that seem to spend most of their time in the AW forums.

Go figure...

my bad, i didn't realize i had to own an AW to participate in any threads created in the AW forum, even ones that comment on something that i might own myself. and apparently even for those that do own an AW, i guess there are "limits" to what can be said or not said.......so i guess this is how notebook gamer felt..........

on a different note, i criticize where criticism is warranted, and give credit where credit is due, you may not have to agree with what i say or think but i'm not driven by a love for any specific machine and i certainly don't put others down to better justify my hardware purchases, as most "fanboys" are apt to do

but seriously craig, i would have expected your comment from someone else, but not from you. You've always been the voice of reason on the AW forums.........
the alienware forums are the most hostile that I have seen, but I guess that is understandable. These guys are stuck with yesterday's hardware at a cutting edge price. now don't get me wrong, i love the designs and have only heard good thing about the quality, but compared to voodoopc, falcon, and sager etc. alienware always seems to be a step behind.

Diesel,

I'm still that voice...its just that my voice is now "reasoning" that you've been trolling all over the forums lately. Take a long look at your post history since you got your Dell. You wouldn't have come back like you did if I wasn't right and you knew it.

Well, for those of us on the 9600, the 9800 promises double the frame rate in some games! me likey a lot...AW better get off their asses...Also, @thinkjose1, you 3dMark03 test says you are running a 9600, not a 9700 like you lappy came with and you 3dMark scores reflect...odd maybe AW just modded the 9600 and passed it off as a 9700 because they had to much stock or something...

yeah take a look at my posts, i post where i want to post without regard for whether it's the "dell" forum, the "general notebooks" forum, the "gaming" forum, the "AW" forum, or any other forum where there are topics that interest me. If i am contemplating my next machine purchase and AW is on my list, i think that gives me a right to post in AW. And to be frank, even if i wasn't even considering an AW, you CANNOT tell me that i DONT have a right to post in the AW forum. I post where i want to post because there is a topic of interest in there, regardless of "whose" forum it is. And need i remind you, it's not the Craig forum, it's the AW forum, generously hosted by PC Torque. With that said, it certainly doesn't give you the right to pass judgement on me by the machine that i own, and it certainly does not give you the right to criticize me for posting in the AW forum because i own a dell, and it certainly doesnt qualify as "trolling"

it's funny that when the AW product manager came on and posted that little blurb on how the industry was moving faster than they had anticipated, and that AW was doing everything that they could to satisfy current AW owners, i posted a positive response applauding the fact that AW came in and interacted with the user base here. And i do recall you remarking along the lines of looking forward to me joing the AW club.

this brings me back to my original point, i guess you are not allowed to hold negative opinions of AW let alone voice them.

in closing, i'm not going to get in a pissing contest with you. i will continue to post where i want to post, and i will continue to voice my opinions, and i will continue to be active in these forums because everyone here is great and without some of you guys (whether you own a dell or aw or sager, who really gives a shi!t what someone owns and who cares what forum you post in) i wouldn't have been able to have gotten as much knowledge that i have. in the end, we are all here to share information, share opinions, and to DEBATE them (not insult each other), all with the purpose of making better educated puchasing decisions for the future. And i would like to think that i have been a small part of that process through these forums, no matter how little YOU might perceive my contribution a.ka. trolling has been towards that end

period

Man, people are sure hostile here.
