Yes, I took my 9700 out today to see how it goes. You need to take your LCD off to get your video card out, but you do not need to take any part of the LCD itself apart.
I use this order. (Unplug everything and remove the battery)
1. Close LCD-Unscrew the 4 screws (D screws I believe) under the notebook.
2. Open LCD-Remove the Hinge covers
3. Close LCD-Remove the top trim piece by prying up the back (dell manual tells how to this better than I can). Open LCD. Remove top trim and unplug the flat cable from the computer. Disconnect the two antenna cables and unplug the LCD grey cable from the Video card.
4. Remove two small keyboard screws. Lift up on keyboard to unpop it (dont break the keys). Unplug it from the motherboard.
Now you can get a good look at the inside of your 9100. You'll notice the wind tunnel (as I like to call it) on the right side and the video card under the keyboard support braceing.
5. Remove the two top screws and the two lower screws to remove the keyboard braceing (big metal like truss). Unplug the cables from the motherboard.
6. Now your videocard has 5 Torques screws on it. Don't remove these as they just hold on the heat sink. If you do want to remove it, I believe you're going to need a T-8 torques wrench, because my T-10 is too big. I'm gonna pick up a smaller one tommrow.

Look for the 4 phillips screws on the 4 corners of your videocard. Unscrew them and gently pull up on the card. The card and heatsink should lift straight up and off the motherboard easily. If not, double check to make sure you have all the screws removed.
The whole process takes me no more than 20 min. (Thank you dell for making such a nice notebook to disect!

)
In regards to the 9800. Does anyone know if when you order it from Dell Spare Parts if it is shipped with the heatsink and transfer pipe allready assembled on the card or is that an extra part?
EDIT: Pictures are up :
Images Here Sorry bout the crappy quality, but it was a 10 dollar camera. Probably 1/2 a megapixel.
