When the upgrade becomes available I'm going to inquire if the price would be cheaper for a self install. They sent me my replacement 9700 and let me do the swap myself so I don't see why they wouldn't let me install the upgrade. What's really got me thinking is the "starting at $399" line. i agree with ya geed. if you guys think about it, a top of the line, cutting edge desktop video card will run you 400-500 dollars. So i'm not surprised that a cutting edge laptop video card will be priced in the same price range, despite the fact that it's performance isn't as great as its desktop equivalent.
Think about it, a top of the line laptop is usually more expensive than a top of the line desktop, but usually the laptop is not as "powerful" as the desktop. Same for some of the individual components.
