upgrading an acer aspire 1711

does anybody have any pics of the cpu and hard drive being taken out and upgraded? I've tried searching this site and the web, but no luck in finding any info. I have the 1711-SCI and looking to put 200GB Seagate HD in and 2.8 P4 Northwood w/HT. Any help would be appreciated.

Actually, if you look in the user's manual, you will see the procedure outlined for upgrading the CPU and hard disk drive. They are both very simply to perform.

Re:

Yes, I have read the User Manual and I saw the diagrams they have provided. I was looking for pictures that would show more detail than the users manual. I'd like to see in color, what the heatsinks look like and how everything is configured, before I go ahead and start taking apart my laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, no one has posted actual upgrade pictures, but if you look at the main thread for this model in the Notebook Review forum, you will see Adam took some good pictures of the notebook with the cover removed and showing how easy it is to remove components.

I can testify all of them are quite simple since I have upgraded the CPU, memory, hard disk drive, and mini-daughter card (replaced modem with modem/bluetooth combo card).

re:

thanks for the info! What I was really hoping to see was what the heat sink for the cpu looks like. is it a standard desktop heatsink? i was hoping to put in a copper one, but i don't know if it will fit. sorry for the newbie question, but i've only put together desktop pc's, this is my first notebook

BTW, i looked at the pics you mentioned. I must have missed that one with the internal pics. Thanks!

Hey me too... Im gonna by a 1712 or 1711 and totally upgrade it... if no one has posted any such pics then I will do it...

My one question is this: Internally what is the major difference between the 1712 and the 1711 and maybe the 1714... tho I dont think I can get one of those here.

I really like the 3 1/2 floopy built in.. so many people still use those and I get stuff on those old disks all the time...

Since I have to upgrade the CUP and RAM and HD anyway... if the floppy drive doesnt alter the main configuration between the 12 and 11 models then I'll get an 11....

But any pics or details as to the inside guts would be welcomed!!

I don't believe any Aspire 1710 based models come with the floppy disk drive anymore. This includes both US and UK based models.

http://www.acer.com/APP/AKC/INTERNET...4?OpenDocument

http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4...crc=3867314393

These are all listed with 6 in 1 reader so there will be no floppy disk drive.
The Aspire 1700 based models did come standard with the floppy disk drive and the 6 in 1 reader was listed as optional.

Can you give me some more information about the upgrade for bluetooth? I'm thinking about doing that.

Thanks in advance
