e-Machine Admits Faulty Parts as Cause Of Hinge Problems - Page 4

Being the "paranoid" person I am. I decided to call eMachines tech support back. And sure enough I talked to another person (#66500 I think). I told him I just called and they were sending me a box for repair and I had heard they were awaiting new parts are their was a 3 week waiting period for this particular repair. He put me on hold...then came back from talking to his supervisor. And sure enough their is a wait. And I am on it. So he said they cancelled the first box being sent and they will call me when it is my turn.

I have a M6809 N3043 600 21866 as my SN# and I asked him if it would be covered and he said yes but I don't think he knew what I was talking about. But hopefully this fixes the problems.

Remember Dust_Devil-- It's not whether you're paranoid, it's whether you're paranoid enough ! It's a good thing you acted on your suspicion ot that lappy would be sitting in a cold dank warehouse for weeks.

Exactly shadow84. I know enough people in here are having problems with the hinges or the parts around them, that eMachines definately knows about it. And when she said she knew nothing I was thinking (rut ruh roobee).

Just the way the lady talked, like "the repairers will see if the problem was user inflicted". I am sure it is SOP to say that. Hopefully as soon as you push the #2 key to get tech support for a laptop and you talk to a tech. And say the words hinges, they will just add you.

We will see what happens I suppose. I am sure their are people in here ahead of me on the list so they will be getting the newer parts installed and we will see them in the next week or so.

Thats exactly what just happened to me....I called emachines said Hinges and asked if he knew what I was talking about....He said Yes I do. We are getting a lot of calls for broken hinges. I asked if it was only cosmetic and he said it has potential to become a mechanical problem so they would go ahead and place me on the waiting list and give me a call when it was ready.

He said that the total time, shipping, fix, and return shipping would take about a week total.

Yeah in the perfect world it would be nice to go to the manufactuers website and see a list of problems for their products and what they are doing about them.

Unfortunately it just looks to negatively on them so their are little chances of that every happening.

On a side note the first lady I talked to said that the only problem that she was aware of got the M68XX's was short battery life. I have experienced less than desirable run times with the battery has anyone else?

What is less then desirable to you? 3 hours is about what I make it in, which works for me...

I get about 2:00 to 2:30 sometimes. Not bad times by any stretch of the imagination. But when I first go on batteries, windows will say like 3:00+ hours then rapidly (like 20 minutes) its down to 2:15 minutes.

I get well over 3 hours on battery.

I dim the screen indoors all the way though. Maybe a notch or two up if I'm having trouble seeing what is going on.

OK...I have resolution...let's hope. I have a 6809 that had the right hinge crack (a real nasty one too!) then the left one started as a hairline and was growing like a weed. I just got caught up on this board and yes I am S/N ending in 43. I purchased in May at local BBuy and noticed right crack within one month and left crack started in month two. Well I had an RMA box for over a month and finally mailed it in last Thursday. I got it back today (Tuesday)! I commend them on the fast return and new panel cover. I know they only replaced the cover because it was not all the way snapped at the bottom between the hinges. I snapped it back REALLY gently. Anyway, panel tightness feels the same upon opening, no cracks in hinges, no notebook shipping damage, and they did not even boot the PC (I checked logs). So RMA away folks, from me it was not bad at all.

i realize this topic has been stale for like 2 weeks, but just as an update i contacted emachines 30 minutes ago and had the best tech support experience of my 17 years (i know, i'm young, but if ya think about it all the tech support experiences you've probly had were in the last 10 years anyway i'd bet). they're shipping me the box, the only thing is she said it would take about 2 weeks working days to get it back to me, but i hope she was just being cautious in her estimation. i realized that i had never registered my notebook and she did it for me anyway, very nice. but the part that is worthy of putting the thread back to the top is that she at first said that she'd have to put me on a waiting list cause they were out of hinges... but she asked me to hang on while she talked to her supervisor and she said they just got a new batch in, so hopefully everyone that's still waiting will get their notebooks repaired. great job emachines, i'm glad i bought from them

This is such BS... I don't really have time to tell my entire story, but they DO NOT fix the problem, they just slap a new cover on the laptops and hope to not hear from you again until after warranty period ends. These "new" covers are the exact same as the old crappy design. And They WILL crack again. I had my unit to them 3 times, and the laptop got more f'd up every time I sent it to them, and the NEVER fixed the design of the casing to remedy the cracking issue.

When my warranty ran out, I began fixing things myself and have done a MUCH better job than eMachines/Gateway ever did.

I have had to replace the top three times and when my fourth crack appeared, I went in myself and worked for better structural integrity in the problem location. The problem is where the brass "nuts" make contact and are seated in the plastic molded casing... eventually stress of opening and closing the lid cracks the casting and things just begin to disintegrate and go downhill from there...

I wish a lawyer would class action these s$#theads and teach em a lesson...

Also, the fricken power inverters SUCK too. So do the power supplies.

These are all known problems though...

My advice, if you have a problem, DO NOT send it in... you risk more damage than you started with and THEY WILL NOT really fix your problem long term...

Wow, talk about digging up an old thread

Agreed. I was wondering if I was the only one who had cracks in the laptop hinges again. Sure enough, someone had the same problem. Also, I totally agree on the power adapater stuff. I've had it break in so many different ways, I'm starting to laugh, wondering what new way it will break. So far, I've had the power adapter break like this:

1. Plug melted off into AC socket

This time, they got wise. They attached a part so the whole prong couldn't melt off.

2. shorted out inside; don't know how
3. The end-part of the adapter had it's small, metal, cyllindrical prong stuck into the other part of the end.
4. The last couple did that, too
5. This next one I have simply unglued and I can see the why

Does no one understand this is a serious issue? Fire can be caused? WTF? I'm tempted to seriously sue their ass for this.

In conclusion the emachines m6811 all around sucks ass. It seems like the parts are being made in a fourth-world country.
