ATI Catalyst 3.4 Drivers Available for Download! - Page 7

Sager's Solution

Sager told me to install the video driver for model NP5670 on my 8887. Upon receipt of their email, I had just turned off HT and did a fresh WINXP Home OS install using the original drivers that came with my system with DX 8.1 installed. Now 3DMark2001SE tests at 7319 without lockup, and my screen resolution retains my settings. 3DMark results show a bit of a performance drop as my score was 7743 with DX9, HT enabled, and the CAT3.4 drivers off the ATI website, just wouldn't retain screen res pref. Seems stable so far though. Haven't tried the drivers Sager suggested yet, as I plan to take gsferrari's suggestion to stick with the orig drivers a few weeks to check system stability. Thanks GS!
Hope this helps... Here is the email from Sager FYI.

Dear Sir, please download the video driver for model NP5670 from www.sagernotebook.com. Then remove the installed ATI video driver. Restart computer and run setup to install the downloaded version.

Subject: Sager 8887

Hi,

I just purchased the Sager 8887 from PCTORQUE with the mobility Radeon 9000 video card and am experiencing problems. The Radeon CAT 3.2 drivers cause my system to lock up when testing via 3DMark2001 SE, however with CAT 3.4 drivers installed I am able to successfully test with 3DMark but my resolution reverts to 640X480 upon reboot. Many of us are experiencing similar problems with the same system IE: http://sagerforums.com/showthread.ph...5&pagenumber=1

Please advise. Below are my system specs
Thank You,
Douglas

REF: "Sager told me to install the video driver for model NP5670 on my 8887. "

I downloaded them and looked in the INF file. It says "DriverVer=02/28/2003, 6.14.01.6307", which I believe are the Cat 3.2s. The Cat 3.4s are 6.14.10.6343. Oh well.

Bunch of stuff, in'nit? I'm currently running a 3.4 set I found called Neutral Catalyst, from an Italian site. I expected the tabs to be in Italian, as advertised, but they came out in English. I got the Rotation feature back that I had with the Omegacorner drivers. There are more tabs and settings than I frankly know what to do with, though someone kindly posted an info link earlier in this thread. The drivers also came with a RadTabs utility that adds a DirectX tab and another OpenGL tab to the ATI Control Panel. I can't get the RadOverclocker or RadLinker utilities to install. Some problem with the RadProbe.sys. RadLinker sounds neat because you can setup a graphics profile specific to a game EXE and it loads those settings when you execute the game. Anyway, I'm up and running. Still using the MultiRes command line to auto-reset my res on bootup (see earlier post). As long as I can keep gaming OK I'll stick with this for now. Other than games, the beast runs like a charm.

Cool! Let us know how it goes. I don't know about OC'ing this hot puppy, but the RadLinker sounds interesting for configuring game EXEs. I'm going to give it a shot this evening.

I just installed the 3.4's on my desktop for the 9800 and found something interesting. The 3d benchmarks are considerably lower.

I also installed the modded 3.4's on my sager 5670, but didn't get a chance to run a benchmark before the upgrade. Anyway, I was wodering if anyone noticed a downgrade in perf. after installing the 3.4's.

I don't know if I really care, cus planetside actually works now

I'm wondering if those are really 3.4s you got. After you install them, run DXDIAG and from the Display tab and tell me what you have on the right in the Drivers box for Version:. I have Version: 6.14.10.6343 (English). I believe 6343 is Cat3.4, 6307 is Cat3.2, and 6292 is Cat3.1. (I think ATI skipped Cat3.3.)

Foofighter: Did you get your 3.4s from the link from FrostNads? Did your RadLinker and RadOverclocker install and appears to work? If both these work, you're ahead of me!

By the way, this is the main link for the Neutral Catalyst site. You'll see in the middle of the page is a link for "...pack v.2.2.0.1 based on Catalyst 3.4....". On the left of the page, if you click on the Drivers link under Files, you go to a list of drivers that includes "...Neutral ATIpower Pack v 2.0.3.3 6292 7.83 3rd party...". Admittedly, it's a bit confusing without dates to go with it all. If you have older drivers, it may also be why benchmarks are lower but games are working. Some of the older drivers are more stable. Good thing we're computerized!

Lemme know what you have Frostnads. Thanks.

I checked this after install, but I just checked again to make sure. Looks like the new drivers are there. I didnt' install the powerpack from nuetral, I just grabbed the drivers off of ati's site. I will go grab that powerpack now tho. Does it say something about 400mhz default OC? Or am I nuts?

Anyway, benchmarks are definitely lower with the new drivers, but I keep reading on other sites how the new drivers add significant FPS. But I dont know what the hell im talking about anyway.

It was an old Powerpack and installed 6.14.10.6292 CAT 3.1 drivers. Think I'll try the direct link you provided after I repartition and load the OS again. My Drive Image 2002 just arrived, so life is about to get a little easier..... Thanks for the clues MrMsyvc.

I admit I thought it odd when gsferrari was awesome enough to help me, said "I did an OS for the first time when I got my 5660 and since then I've done about 3 dozen reinstalls just for fun" old thread

However now, I am beginning to understand. I'm having a blast....

Just remember, I've installed the Neutral Cat3.4s and the RadOverclocker does NOT install and RadLinker does NOT function. There's a problem with the RadProbe.sys. I've found a few indecipherable references on the Net, but no fixes. That's why I was wondering if you got them to work with the old Neutral Cat3.2. Perhaps the files could be copied or cloned or installed seperately. Did you get OC or Linker to install or work?

Speaking of FPS, Frost or Foo, either of you know how I measure it during game play? I see talk about it so there must be a utility. I have Sandra free download. Something there or something else? Thanks.
RadOverclocker utility installed but will not run, and RadLinker didn't install at all. Too bad, cause I really like the idea behind RadLinker.

Nope, I have only tested FPS using 3DMark from madonion.com. I also would like to know of a utility to test during actual gameplay...
Well, I installed the 3.4 powerpack and my FPS are back up, pretty much. I still can't get them back to what I installed off the ATI cd. Weird. I could not get the RADoverlocker or radlinker to install.
I don't know any program that logs your FPS during gameplay, but there must be one out there. I would like to have that.

Has anyone installed these yet? Look pretty cool. I have read good things about them. Anyway, let me know how you guys fare with these. I wanna know if the overclocker utility works.

I tried these awhile back. They work fine up to a point. The Overclocker does NOT work. You get the same RadProbe.sys error. He installs his own Control Panel with the drivers, which I think had the rotation feature. You have to uninstall your current drivers and ATI control panel before installing Omegacorner. You also have to use Patje's Mobility Modder to allow for M9. All that is no problem. As Omega says somewhere, if you reinstall the "standard" ATI Control Panel you will overlay some of Omega's settings, since he has also tweaked some things. Omega also included the MultiRes utility, which is where I first found out about it. You will still get the reboot to 640x480. I discovered the command line MultiRes reset within the utility myself, I'm surprised no one else has advertised this as a workaround to the 640x480 problem. Personally I'm "satisfied" with the Neutral Cat 3.4s for now, and I have the MultiRes command line in my registry Run resetting my Res on reboot.

I'm not HUGELY satisfied with gaming performance, and wouldn't mind ATI or Sager coming up with Cat3.5s or something specifically for Mobility chips. I've been playing GTAIII and MOHAA Spearhead lately, and I still get some pauses in game play. Sure, I can, and sometimes do, turn down the settings, shut off all background apps, etc. etc., but what am I doing with a Monster machine if I can only run it in 1st gear? I'll probably be opting for an upgrade to the M10 when it comes out, or full MOBO upgrade if available, just to keep up with the eternal quest for ultimate performance.

Has anyone had problems installing the control panel?

I'm getting a:

INF error
Video Driver not found

But under the device manager under the RADEON 9000 Series properties it lists driver version: 6.14.10.6343 (cat 3.4)

What little thing did I screw up?
