Haven't got the "breath" or time to do it that way.

I spray Windex on a soft cloth - a little goes a long ways (DO NOT SPRAY IT ON THE SCREEN). Wipe the screen gently and then dry will another soft cloth. You may want to wait a few seconds and again wipe it off if there is any residual film from the first cleaning. I get this because I am a smoker and that is some of the "gunk" associated with 1st/2nd Hand Smoke.

Soft clean 100% cotton cloth with water. No chemicals allowed. Paper tissue is quite abrasive to LCD surface.

Tried and true methods

Spritz Root Beer on it and let it run down the screen for a minute or two. Once it's done dribbling down the screen, a pass or two with a shirt sleeve or candy wrapper generally gets the remainder for me.

Tried the shower once, but I had to hang it out to dry for 3 days on the laundry line before it'd boot again.

And don't anyone dare take this seriously. If there's anyone brain-dead enough to follow my "examples," there's no way I'm taking any responsibility for it. Just 'cuz I'm in a sassy mood right now doesn't mean I'm gonna pay for a new 'puter for ya

i use glasses cleaning solution and the glasses cleaning cloth.. not the cheap dry ones, but the ones that feel a little like soft leather... and its a bit shiny too.

i spray water/glasses cleaning solution on the cloth before wiping the screen with it, seldomly i use my nails to get out some hard spots.. but thats really RARE

That's just a plain waste of time. Acetone is much more efficient than this guy's method. Soak steel wool in a bowl of acetone and scrub the screen with enough pressure that you can feel it indent. Keep wetting the steel wool, it should be dripping all the time. After you've done the whole screen, immediately place the notebook in a microwave on high for 10 minutes, this will dry it fast and prevent streaking. Do not accidentally place your cat in with it. Cats are very attracted to acetone AND microwaves, but should be dried separately. Alternatively, you can just set the acetone soaked screen on fire. The acetone will burn off quickly and then extinguish on it's on. But this method has been known to leave streaks, especially in humid enviroments, so the microwave method is preferred, as it is surely mentioned in your manual.

If by some misguided judgement you DO use the root beer method, DO NOT, under any circumstances use non-root beer. As this substance should never be spit, only swallowed and doing so can result in a very deadly condition known as "sobriety".

In the mean-time, if your screen is dirty and you do not have the correct materials to clean it on hand. Here's a handy trick I learned to be able to continue to use the notebook in it's condition. Close one eye while using, this will instantly make the laptop seem only 1/2 as dirty. Alternating eyes can extend the time period that this works.

Hey --- What do you mean don't use the "non-root beer" beer. I do; however, you must do so carefully or someone will accuse you of alcohol abuse......

Hey, I just noticed this. Doesn't Windex contain ammonia which ALL LCD screen manufacturers say is extremely harmfull to screens? (Just like acetone and fire, but maybe not so much spit and root beer).

I think I like the watered down alcohol thing the best. Sony says to use nothing but a dry soft cloth on their xbright screens. They specifically state not to use alcohol or ammonia products. But then what do you clean off greasy finger prints with? Dry cloths don't do that and these glossy screens show everything, don't they?

Poor me
Poor me
Poor me another drink!
Hey, now the screen looks all blurry, that didn't help at all. But somehow, I feel better about the whole thing.

I use only NuShield brand screen towelettes. They make my screen look G-Omahalicious.

When I took my 5690 in for service at Sager they cleaned the screen with Windex. When I asked about it they said they clean all their screens with it before shipping.
