Oh No! Another person who can't decide

Thread Starter
I apologize for those who have seen these type of threads on here a million times but maybe someone here can help me make up my mind because even with scouring the forum I still can't seem to choose between the 5660 and 8886 model. My budget will allow(from PCTorque) to get either the 5660-C 2.53ghz with UXGA, 512 ram, and 40gig 5400 rpm drive or the 8886-S 2.4ghz with 256 ram and 40 gig 5400 rpm drive. Decisions..... Decisions....

Not sure what to go with. So many questions too. Could I get say the 5660 then if I'm not happy with it send it back within the 30 day frame and get the 8886 model? Is that feasible? I think I would feel more comfortable selling my desktop from the few pictures I have seen of the 8886. I think most of my reservations with the 5660 have to do with the UXGA. I have read mixed reviews. I would hate to get it and not be satisfied. I went to Best buy and saw a uxga screen on a Sony but it was 16" and now that I think about it I dont think it was in it's native resolution. doh! I know he's not suppose to be biased but I'm curious to know what Adam from Pctorque uses more.

Couple of questions. Do you have to be closer to the 5660 screen then say the 8886 due to the smaller resolution? Also, would the 8886 be good to take to class and the library where I spend a ton of my time. And finally, will Sager have any 16" uxga screens any time soon? I heard about this Clevo 888e that has the option for a 16" UXGA, but haven't seen it available for sale. Thanks

Go with the 5560. There is no point getting a slower processor, half the RAM, slower hard drive and a lower resolution screen for the same money.

As for the resolution, UXGA in my opinion is way better than lower resolutions. Don't worry about anything being smaller. You can increase the size of fonts and icons in all windows. And worst case scenario, you can lower the resolution to SXGA+ or even lower. You can't go wrong with UXGA and you might (chances are high) that you'll be a convert forever.

PS - I can't get over the fact that the 5660 is so quiet. So don't worry about this aspect.

Unless you want the other features (bigger screen, mp3 player, tv tuner, multiple hard drive possibilities without firewire or usb2 enclosures, 2 PCMCIA slots, etc), you should go with the 5660 for the same price with more hardware. They're both excellent systems. As was said, I don't think you should put much worry into the resolution. Windows XP can change anything and everything about the display so you can keep it in native resolution. I like the lower native resolution for gameplay (cuz most games can't be played well at a high resolution, big performance drain), but that's me. The M9 is a great card too and it has good antialiasing and the like to get rid of jagged edges should you change the resolution to non-native, but it still gets fuzzy... Hope that helps! Post any questions you like :-)
