8886 Remote Control

I'm having trouble with my remote control. I've installed the tv tuner program that came with the 8886 but I can't get the remote to work with it (only 1 button on the remote seems to work right now, the power button, which shuts down my computer).

I assume I'm missing some drivers or something. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

You need to have the QuickTV program running in the systray. It looks like a little remote. I believe you also have to be hooked to AC power also. (don't have the manual in front of me but it's in there)

Thanks

Thanks alot that fixed my problem (I didn't have quicktv running).

So in order to use the remote to do things on the desktop, quicktv has to be running in the systray? So they are compatable with each other which means that using any other tv program will render the remote useless... If that's true, I hope quicktv doesn't use many system resources to be running in the systray (that's my pet peeve... I have only the volume controls and the antivirus in the systray, lol). Anyone shed some light on this?

With Windows XP, it isn't a problem... you can walk up to an off 8886 and from the remote:
power it up
turn on the TV
play a CD
adjust audio, video
check your email
record a tv show to your hard drive
surf the internet
shut it down

You can pretty much do anything with it without ever touching the notebook itself from my experience with Windows XP Pro.

If you ordered it without an OS, did you install all the software it asks you to in the order it says? Did you install other software of your own before trying it out?

So in that case it is not dependant at all on quicktv being up and running... That's good to know. If we got it without an OS and followed your directions for driver installation in the thread:

Will we be able to use it as you stated here? (As though it came with the OS installed?) Thank you PCTorque!

A couple of more questions

I'm loving the remote now that its all working, thanks again for the help. However I have a couple more questions:

1. Is there anyway to speed up how fast the remote moves the windows arrow without changing the mouse speed?

2. What are the purple, yellow, green and blue buttons for near the bottom of the remote?

another thing, can anyone can scan the remote page that comes with the 8886 for me please?

You can download the manual for the 8886 online... I have it on my other lappy, so I can email it to you sometime if you want. I don't have a scanner or I'd do that for you....
