AW Depot Service -- Worthless

Ok, so here's the story. I sent my Sentia back to AW to have it fixed about 2 weeks ago. Here's the stuff that was wrong with it--

- PCMCIA eject button is stuck out
- Several keys on the keyboard dont work
- Missing a rubber support pad on the bottom of the case
- LCD hinges loose
- AW head scratched up a little
- Labels on the bottom wearing off

I get a call today at about 1:00pm from some tech person at alienware. He says that only the keyboard and the PCMCIA slot eject button can be fixed because nothing else is covered under the warranty. I proceeded to explain to him that the rubber pad in the middle of the case is a support issue. If there's no pad, and the plastic of the case is being flexed over and over again, eventually it will crack, and they will have to replace the whole thing. Even that didn't work, he said if they had an extra one lying around they would put it in for me, but if not then I would just have to deal with it. What kind of rediculous crap is that? It's a rubber pad, and as far as I know part of the system. And if i'm not mistaken, the warranty covers 'the system' in its entirity. I can understand the AW head on the front. But the labels are an issue. If the computers are sitting on a line waiting to get fixed, and there aren't any identification labels on the bottom, how are they supposed to know who it belongs to? I'm really unsatisfied by AW customer service, technical support, and their overall product. Next time, i'm getting a Dell.

lol and getting a Dell will make it all better? Think again lol. Look at your problems and think about why they wouldn't offer immediate free replacement/fixing. The warranty covers defective parts and stuff. Not aestethics things from wear and tear.

- PCMCIA eject button is stuck out (Defect)
- Several keys on the keyboard dont work (Defect unless you spilled liquid on it or something)
- Missing a rubber support pad on the bottom of the case (Aestethic)
- LCD hinges loose(Aesthetic)
- AW head scratched up a little (Aesthetic)
- Labels on the bottom wearing off (Aesthetic)

The level of support is exactly what you should have expected. Why would a company fix a part on your notebook which has a scratch or where a label is wearing off. That's not a defect that's wear and tear from YOU using it. Man if car manufacturer's allowed us to bring in our cars to have our scratches and stuff fixed for free...cmon now be realistic. They fixed what they stated they would in their warranty. The last 4 things they (Alienware), or any other manufacturer are under NO obligation to fix for free. Those things came about from you simply using your notebook (normal wear and tear) not a defect in their workmanship.

Here's a quote from the warranty --

Alienware warrants to the original purchaser that any Alienware-branded hardware will be free of defects in workmanship and materials for the period of your warranty, which is measured from the date of delivery. This limited product warranty does not include:
product for which Alienware has not received payment;
non-Alienware branded hardware products and accessories;
software, including the operating system;
product that has been damaged by actions that are beyond Alienware's control, including without limitation, impacts, fluids, fire, flood, wind, earthquake, lightning or similar disaster, war, strike, lockout, epidemic, destruction of production facilities, riot, insurrection, or material unavailability; or
product that has been damaged through misuse, abuse or mishandling, including without limitation the unauthorized modification of the system as a whole or any individual component, and/or the attachment of peripheral devices.

Now, wouldn't materials include the glue they use to put that pad on? Put yourself in my position. You have a laptop that has stuff wrong with it, and you send it back to get it fixed and they call and tell you that some of it can't be. You wouldn't be satisfied either.

I worked a a repair technician for a manufacturer that has basically an exactly identical warranty as Alienware's. And I'm telling you...if someone was to send in a computer with those last 4 problems you listed we were under no obligation to repair/fix those problems for free if able to fix/replace them at all. I know a manufacturer would probably never fix/replace something because their was a scratch on it, or because a sticker was coming off under a warranty. That's unrealistic and thus I never would have had that expectation to begin with.

I would also be upset if they could not fix it for an additional fee. I guess if I was to lose one of the rubber pads that I would expect to be able to buy one for a reasonable cost.
