1 more question before i go get my new lappy!

Hey guys im about to go to best buy and pick up my new emachines M6810 (3 year warranty in case the hinges crack)

my question is: is the 64mb 9600 PRO enough for heavy gaming??(i plan on overclocking it too)
It may be adequate until the end of the year. After that, when games will require 128MB, you'll be screwed.

only till the end of this year?
Minumum requirements now are still based on 32MB DX8 capable cards

the MR9600 will be able to run most things reasonably well for at least another year.

"heavy" it won't do, though
I'd say maybe until mid next year. 512MB cards are due out late this year so it won't be long for developers to require 128MB for video.

if you're a gamer and getting a laptop I wouldn't go less than the ati 9600 128 mb ; its not that much more money ; considering you're probably spending over $1200 for a laptop..

No developer would be so stupid as to limit their customer base so drastically.

Stupid is stating that Doom 3 will run at ultra high settings on a card that doesn't even exist.

eheh..pretty soon we'll all be speculating about when the 512MB mobile video cards will be coming out :-)

These guys do not know what they are talking about....Mine runs better overclocked than any of theirs and it is only 64 mb. The only advantage is in the way it decompresses textures. FPS-wise hardly at all. I play far cry with mine and let me ask any of them if it plays very well on theirs....sorry, naive people piss me offf.

e-peen wagglers piss me off.

FPS isn't the end-all of measuring a video card. And overclocking(over-heating) a video processor for an extended period of time will, in certainty, shorten its life dramatically. Most notably in a notebook where there is little that can be done to provide extra cooling to the gpu.

In addition, each gpu is different and will overclock differently. While most will give at least a 5-10% overclock from stock, some will barely manage stock settings, and some will burn themselves out at the slightest overheat.

The question, is it enough for heavy gaming, is answered by the fact that yes, it will run all the current games, and no, it most definitely will not be enough for an extended period of time (over 2 years). If the gpu lasts that long when overclocked.

Being an "overclocking whiz" doesn't do much in terms of computer knowledge. Naivete is thinking that having the #1 laptop scores means anything to anyone other than yourself and your closest friend(s).

Your an idiot if you think people do not look at benches as for ideas on how there laptop will stack up against the competition. Saying it will only be adequate until the end of the year is a stupid thing to say no matter what. Let me get out my crystal ball.....now if you want to talk about what is out now and how it woks, come see me. My computer knowledge being questioned is just a personal attack. CoffeeShark , you are not contributing to this thread. Any smart overclocker will run it until it shows artifacts or crashes. I don't run it at the highest setting all the time. I never said I did. Everybody likes to throw stones because the one at the top is an easy seen target. Good to see that your MSI performs so well. Yeah right...

1. It's you're, not your. See "idiot".
2. It's their, not there, when referring to possession. "There" is a place. See "idiot".
3. Calling someone naive and "these guys don't know what they're talking about" is an attack, so i guess you started the 'personal attack'. I'm just finishing it off.
4. "Mine runs better than theirs" doesn't contribute anything, it's a bragging statement.
5. I didn't say anything about benchmarking in general, I said FPS. There are a lot of different benchmarks for quality of video cards.
6. Most of my earlier post did contribute, while the last paragraph did not. Your post, however contributed nothing, just like this one.
7. I'm not "throwing stones at the top" because "the top" is all in your head, and I'm not trying to get there. You bought an eMachines and are the king OC'er for a few days. Congratulations, it's all yours. No one cares. And since 90% of your posts in this forum have to do with overclocking your laptop, your extensive knowledge of computers is suspect.

Hear, hear, CoffeeShark! When I see our young buck post something other than an OC'ing brag perhaps I will begin to perceive him as being something other than a self-important, self-aggrandizing tyro who has yet to contribute any value to this community.

Well if I was hurried and it coencided with some grammatical errors, I am implorably ashamed. Not. Couldn't you come up with a relavent attack....Do you know why video cards have memory. If you did, you would see the point in my previous post. I am not even going to get into a pissing contest with you. Your a sad, sad person. Oh wait...You're.....
I won't even touch this one, too easy. Thanks for proving my point in a much clearer way.

Smart decision about the pissing contest.
Once again, relavent information to this thread I see nowhere....I am 26 by the way. I do not need to prove my worth to you. Others on the forum have lauded my efforts.
MY EYES! it pains me to even read your posts. With each new addition you do more to prove our point than we could ever hope to.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that religious attacks are probably WAY out of line. I'd check the board rules but I pretty sure what I'll find on this point.
