XP Pro vs. XP Home - Page 2

Awesome. I think it just caused me to gain a pound of muscle

how can they require XP if plenty of students use Apple OSX? I wasnt sure the differences with this either as I will be a freshman but just went with pro as it was recommended.

Networking is on Pro.

Here is a pretty good listing of XP Home vs. XP Pro.

at my school you def. need Pro to connect to the wireless network because of certain steps they take to secure the connection. Also, you need Pro to use Novell to get some Aps. you need for certain classes.

I was thinkin the same thing you were, why spend the extra ~75 bucks for Pro? They're both Win XP there can't be that much difference right? Wrong. I researched and found out all the extra networking and administrative abilities that weren't on Home. My conclusion: if you are going to a college with any kind of network, your life will be much easier with Pro.

I already got my copy of Pro, i bought it and an OEM copy of Office XP Pro for $80 total. Not a bad deal, if you ask me
post #28 of 33
ehhh... just where did you get a deal like that??

but pro is a must for most colleges. i used pro for 3 years now i use home cause i don't have a legal copy and *cough* my pro cd keys are running thin *cough cough*. Rather not take the risk on a machine I own

However my college just added a new system that will allow anyone with xp home to connect. I'm sure most colleges will do the same at some point considering all the computers that mommy and daddy buys for their incoming freshman will have home installed on it.

Glad you got pro, now tell me where you got a legal copy for that price.. :-D

i believe its just oemsoftware.com...but i could be wrong on that...i got an ad in my e-mail, seemed pretty legit to me, checked resellerratings, they seemed pretty solid

If you are a college student you can buy academic versions of software, which is usually cheaper than OEM versions. (But not cheaper than that $80 price...how do you get a deal like that?) Go to a academic vendor like needsoftware.com and check out their prices. After you order you will need to fax your student/teacher ID, whereafter they will ship the software.

This is what's on oemsoftware.com

Did they get hacked or something?
