I got the A75 226 and I love it. I did upgrade with addition ram but even bwfore installation of that I have to say the laptop performed beautifully. Doesn't hold a charge long though, so if your after that keep looking.

Shutdown

I bought this last week and I'm having problems with it shutting down. When I lift the laptop with my hand and press on the underside of the battery area, it shuts down. It only does it when on battery power. What's strange is if I move the laptop while it is plugged in, it doesn't shut down, until I remove the power cord and then it immediately shuts down. This only happens when I have picked up the laptop and may hand has pressed underneath on the battery area while carrying the laptop.

a75 226 running good

I bought the a75 226 yesterday and i'm very pleased so far. The only thing I notice is the hard drive access time isn't the fastest i've seen but i'm also more used to 7200 rpm drives. Right now is my first time using off straight battery power and its on 48% after an hour and 40 minutes plus I just installed some epson software which used the cdrom quite a bit. So I would say i'll get a good 3 hours on this charge. Thats my experience so far and its also a quiet machine. I would recommend it. I got it on sale at best buy for 1150 after rebates. I'll update on anything good or bad about it later.
Until then have fun!

Check battery area

You might want to check the problem I had with the battery shutdown. If you hold the laptop with one hand (hand in center, thumb on top, 4 fingers underneath) while it is on battery power, the tension put on the bottom of the laptop case by your 4 fingers touching near the battery lock slide shuts mine down. After about 3 seconds of pressure it shuts down. I don't know if this is a design problem or just defective on my unit. Let me know if you try it.

I have a A75 S226 too. Runs smoothly, fast and quiet, but when I press the underside with my hand I get a blue screen of death. I am dealing with CompUSA to see if they can repair this problem. My laptop also have a sporadical 'tick' noise in the hard drive but I performed a lot of test to my HD and it seems to be running perfect. I upgraded the memory to 1GB and I planning to upgrade the HB with a 80GB HD.

Freezing

Phaserkb: have u read on these forum about the random freeze/lockup regarding the static electricity issue?

How is your notebook doing so far?
I sent the laptop to CompUSA and the figure out tha the freeze problem is due to a part of the case that cause a short circuit in the motherboard so, thay decide to change the motherboard and that 'Unknow' part. But, Toshiba dont want to replace the f**** part so, i'm literally figthing with CompUSA and Toshiba right know

COMPUSA does a horrible job (imo) take it to a Toshiba P(remier)ASP http://pcrepair.toshiba.com - the problem is a grounding issue and the PASP have the service fix from Toshiba that replaces the lid around the keyboard and speakers.
