All these 3rd party notebooks are too expensive ;-)

Those that have read some of my threads will know that I'm on the eternal hunt for a 15.4" WSXGA+/WUXGA Dothan with a MR9700. But if I were to drop the WSXGA+/WUXGA requirement. There are quite a few notebook that would fit the bill. The problem is that after looking at most of the ones at Hypersonic, GamePC, ABS, etc. It seems that they are all overpriced!

The reason is there was one other notebook I was looking at. An Acer Aspire 2025. A search on the web show that I can have one for $2141 shipped. Comes with 1.8 Dothan, 80GB, 512MB, 4X DVD +/- RW, XP Pro and all the other standard stuff. On top of that, I can get another 2 year of Warranty from Acer for $124 or $280 for total protection.

All these while an ABS Mayhem G2 with the same spec will cost $2209. It gets worst with Hypersonic CX-6 at $2376 and GamePC GPN-CEN3 at $2472. all with just the one year warranty and you still have to add tax and shipping. Other than allowing you to customise, what does these 3rd party vendor offer that Acer doesn't?

Look at the CL56 at mwave. These laptops aren't overpriced, you're just looking at the wrong resellers, if price is important.

Oh, Forgot to mention widescreen. Actually not worried about price since anyone of these will be the cheapest laptop I've ever bought.

Hmm, not sure if the Acer has a GPU with 128 MB of video RAM. If that's not a big deal to you, try one of the Asus M6N series. I went to ynot2k.com and priced this out:

Asus M6N @929.00, Pentium M 1.8Dghz +455, 512mb +95, 15.4WXGA +25, R9700 +55, 80Tgb+209, 802.11G +29, None, XP Pro +149, 1yrSTD

Shipping: charge = 22.75
$1,946.00 USD

ynot2k do pretty well on reseller/ebay ratings and have the best prices I could find for ASUS. Ended up ordering a CL56, so I have no personal knowledge about their service.

Happy shopping,

Some people don't like the fact that it's the size of a suitcase

Ah. I did say I want a Dothan, right? The 9100 have what? a 90min battery life and if I want a 10lb brick, I would have gone for a 17" WSXGA+ with MR9700. ;-)

Oh, BTW. The Acer have the optical drive on the left. This is so much better than al lthe others with the drive on the right (where your mouse would be).
