ive never had my laptop hang to freeze up in the way u had described. well i know if theres a lot of chassis flex, it could restart but im not sure if it ever hangs. if the DVD works funny when u pick it up, it could be that the laser was disturbed as laptops dont have anti-shock or what ever its called that cd players hav

well it is a 2ghz dothian precessor with 1024meg of ram. a hitachi 60mb 7200rpm hd and a 802.11 abg wireless minipci card.
I have already checked out the hitachi drive using hitachi's diagnostic software. it is actually checking out ok. Thing is if it is like an ibm protection system where the heads stop to prevent damage then it should resume activity. well mine doesn;t it just...well stops & never recovers.... i have already removed the optical drive from the setup to see if the prob still happens & it does so it is not an optical drive prob.....i'm beginning to think it is a mobo prob although i can;t be sure how to check that up....any bright sparks out there....getting really fustrated..

Maybe there's a loose connection on the hard drive, try checking that. Also try removing Mini-pci card just in case. lol try removing everything and putting it back together, see if that fixes it.
Oh Also where did you buy your AOpen 1557G and how much total for all the parts? I'm gonna buy it like today or tomorrow from MyAOpen.com, Same config as yours too. 2.0ghz, 60gb 7200rpm, Intel 2200, and 1024mb of ram.
Can we expect a review soon? even a little one?

say surge, aopen does not have the 2ghz or the 7200rpm drive optiuon do they? i am using a different mini pci card for wireless than the intel one. it is a high power extended reangecard i bought off netgate. total cameto about 2100-2200 if i remember right. i got all my components from newegg btw

This sounds like a hard drive problem to me and I think I may know why: If you have the Hitachi E7K60 then you have bought yourself into a hole. The E variant has an "always on" setup meaning that it is either always at full speed or nearly there. It drains batteries fast (that might be one way to check if you don't want to pull it out). Also, moving the laptop while the drive is at speed will likely cause write/read problems and probably regular crashes. If you do have this drive then I suggest you buy a different one (try the Hitachi 7K60 instead) because everything I read about these revolves around one problem or another.

That is correct, MyAopen only sells the 1.8ghz Dothan and for hard drive the 40gb is the only 7200rpm they offer, that's why i'm buying from somewhere else.
Hey wouldn't the High power Wireless card use a little more battery than the Intel 2200?
