New 8886 with dead touchpad - Page 2

Do you have estimates about how the battery fared with your use of it? Glad to hear you are using it on battery at school, at least it's feasable...

Also, I do that trick with my touchpad and mouse all the time :-)

Booted this morning....dead
Booted again...The driver tells me it found another mouse so it's disabling advanced controls.

I'm shipping it back to Sager this morning. I'll print out the event logs and various other messages it sent me and include them. For almost $2000 I thought it would be easier.

Eek... These things happen I guess. Let us know how Sager handles it. The ultimate measure of them is how they do with troubles. Good luck!

Got a call from Ty at Sager. They replaced the system board and they said the computer is operating correctly now. They're not very talkative people over there so I wasn't able to get too many details. They're shipping it back today, which I should get it Thursday. I'll put it through the tests and make sure it performs.

Try this, go into Control Panel->Power and disable APM. I am having the same trouble, but it only happens when I enable APM. I turn it on and the touchpad goes nuts, but the USB mouse works fine. Use the USB mouse to turn off APM and everything returns to normal.

What version of windows are you using? In XP you can't disable advanced power management I thought... But, glad to hear someone found at least some type of solution...

Windows 2000, but I think XP may be the same. Device Manager, go to View and choose Show Hidden Devices. Look for the NT Apm/Legacy Interface Node. Double click it and under Device Usage choose Do Not Use This Device (disable). See if that works.
