Doom 3

How well will the m68xx be able to run Doom 3. Similar to Far Cry maybe?
Probably....it looks like the answer is murky, but we will know soon.

Probaly low - mid settings since Geforce mx 440 run it on low settings and I expect the mobile 9600 to be much better than that.

The biggest downfall is going to be only having 64mb of VRAM. 128mb seems to be the min to keep any decent quality level.

It should run mid fairly easily all other specs considered.

I know some of us will know for sure tommorow, but untill then what are your thoughts after viewing this:

I would guess that high resoultion and low to mid details should do the trick.
If it will be a downfall that will make the game slow (under 30 fps) on medium settings, stay at low (DX9) but activate AF and see how it goes.
Don't bother doom3 unless you have the latest OMEGA installed (aka catalyst 4.7)

god it looks amazing on my m6810. high settings at 800x600. anti aliasing at 2x makes it a little skippy but still runs solid.

Resolution has a major impact on speed. At 1024x768, quality levels mean little (well, other than ultra.)

I've been playing it at 1024x768 at medium quality. It's marginal. I may go 800x600. And this is with it overclocked 450/235.

Anyone play on the M6809 yet, just want to make sure it is playable before I but it. A little chop is okay, b/c that is how UT2004 is sometimes. Anyway, just asking, thanks!

Refer to the previous m6810 reviews for m6809. They have the same hardware except the m6809 has a 20GB bigger HD and DVD+/-RW. The performance in game should be the identical.

oh man I'm stoked that this finally came out. I'm planning on buying it today after work, I'll post how well it plays later tonight. By the way I have a 6809 O/Ced to 428/229.

holy crap. doom 3 is amazing. i just downloaded it from suprnova yesterday night as a full file of 1.71Gb and it installed smoothly. not problems at all. i used alcohol 120 on my 6809 and the game is great so far. creepy as hell. i just started playing it with no o/c on 1024 with med settings and some antialiasing and it runs fine (only choppy sometimes probably due to slow hd) so i expect that high settings with so o/c will do fine. great game again. dont mean to offend people who bought the game. just that i dont want to pay for it so GO BIT TORRENT! enjoy

what is the most recent omega drivers for the 9600? I currently have the 2.5.36b. I assume there are newer ones available...

So I put in a few hours... not too bad. I have the settings at 800x600 and medium and the only slow downs are in some good firefights. Gets a little choppy but other than that this great is really good. Scary as hell, gotta use that flashlight and have a quick draw!! Enjoy! (P.S. i had the vid card O/C at 428/229 with stock hard drive (4200) and 512 MB RAM)

Does switching from medium to low settings make any difference in framerates? By the sounds of it there is no use running on low settings, as only the resolution, AA and AF drastically effect the framerates.
I don't have the game so I don't know for sure, but I would think that the high, medium, and low settings are the texture quality settings. If that is the case, it will have an impact on the framerates, but not near as much changing the rez or AA.
