Universal Notebook Car Power Supply

Hello all... I am a new member with my very first new laptop, ferrari 3200

I have been searching around and finally bought a universal car adapter, since the clerk didn´t know "that" much about it, especially with my laptop, I then just gonna ask you guys and hope for better luck of knowledge

The ferrari 3200 has an input of 19 V and 4.74 A (but how many W??)

this universal car adapter I got has 3.5A with adjustable 15,16,18,19 and 20V....
and 9A with adjustable 22 and 24V.
This adapter has the maximum of 70W

I will quote the text which is written on the back... the warning text didn´t really motivate me to try it right away... lol

Quote:
Universal Notebook Car Power Supply, 12 V;
Fits for many notebooks due to different adapters;
Input Voltage 11-14 V;
Max. output Power 70 W;
Max. output current 3,5 A;
Output voltages 15/16/18/19/20 V (max 3,5 A); 22/24 V (max 2,9 A);
Universal cigarette lighter plug; Incl. 7 different notebook adapter plugs

Warning:
For 12V vehicle power supply; make sure that the current and polarity are set properly for your laptop. Incorrect settings can damage your laptop! Do not use this power pack for devices that have a power consumption higher than 70W!....
and bla bla about other obvious stuff

so what do you say, is it useable and maybe I should remove my battery when using this car adapter so it won´t wreck it or something

I think you bought the wrong adapter
The Ferrari 3200 requires at least 90W.

hehe, well,,, so much for that "Universal" then... *sighs*

It's probably universal, but I wouldn't use it for your laptop.
A universal car adapter 90W costs about 50-60€

this 70W was also about 50€... good thing I saved the reciept at least. I am leaving for vaccation in mid august so I would very much like to have a car adapter and an extra battery pack

By the way, for DC voltages, Watts = Volts x Amps. Remember that and you'll always know if the adapter you're looking at is good enough...

hehe ahh yes, I should know since I went the electrical course in college. But thanks for reminding me

I just bought a car adapter, but a very different one. I don't even think it is called a car adapter . One end goes into the cigarette lighter, and the other end is the 'put-into' part of a three pronged power cord! It's like a wall outlet in your car! Genius ! I bought a 75W version, but there are 125, 150, and 200 I believe. The company is Nexxtech, and purchased from radioshack for about $45 CAD with 3 year warranty.

sounds very nice... I really got to find me one.....
but there isn´t any special for the ferrari, is there?

Of the converter thingy? There is no 'special' one. They just provide different amounts of power. It is the exact same idea as a outlet in the wall. I would guess you need the 125 or 150. Look in at a local Radioshack or electronics store, they shoud have one. Happy hunting .

That's called a power inverter. (the outlet)

A Direct DC-converter will use less juice than a DC-AC-DC conversion though.

Perhaps I am lucky to have my Kensington Universal AC/Car/Plane adapter.

It auto-senses what the laptop needs, so there are no settings; it's just a sealed box with no controls. You plug the proper tip into the power source, and the proper tip into the notebook. The most complicated part is getting the right bloody notebook tip

The blue LED on it is really bright though. Tad annoying.
