What's going on with the Acer 2012WLMi on newegg.com? - Page 3

Poppycock to the "weak screen and 64Mb GPU" statement.

this is a darn good screen

Huh? Relative to what? An Xbrite level screen or a higher res wide screen I'll concede that. Other than those instances this screen blows away or is at the VERY LEAST on par with the rest of the field.

The screen BETTER be nice!
Anyways, about the price changes. The same thing happened to me yesterday, when i called up newegg to double check the price. I felt kinda weird claiming that their was a different price on a product. The CSR assured me the lower price but the key is ADD TO YOUR CART and the price will reflect the actual price.

The crazy thing is LAST weekend special, they reduced the price $4, and this weekend its down $160!

If I get a Dothan, I will thank the Lord and all things Holy, and I will have gotten the best deal EVER!

I just ordered one this morning. I'm not keeping my fingers crossed about getting a Dothan though. I don't want to dissappoint myself. Not that this isn't one of the best deals I've ever seen, even if I get a Banias.

I was about to buy this laptop for $1,450. WOW!
i was checking out this laptop a while ago. it was 1400+ as well, but yeah i was still holding back because i didnt have the $$$ before, im still not sure if i want it though. it has 512meg of ram but with 2 sticks, and only 64 meg vid card. but the dvdrw and the 60 gig hd is nice.

whats the difference btw a sxga and wxga screen?
Uhh... widescreen and a lower res.
sxga is usually 1280x1024, sxga+ is usually 1440x1050, uxga is 1600x1200. these are non-wide aspect screens.

WXGA is 1280x800 or 1280x768
WSXGA is almost always 1680x1050, though sometimes it is 1440x900
WUXGA is 1920x1200

the + usually means the higher res in case of multiple choices.

I pulled the trigger last night. I was hesitant when it was 1450 but when I saw the price drop I couldnt wait any longer. Amazing deal, can't wait to get it, paid extra for 2 day shipping. Crosses fingers for a dothan

That's the right attitude.

Why does everyone care about getting a Dothan anyway... ? The cache was just upped to keep performance levels the same because of pipeline changes required to push it up to higher levels. A Dothan isnt faster than a Banias per clock speed, honestly.
I too was thinking about buying this lappy about a month ago, I decided instead to order a craptop because I didnt feel like spending 1500. The card was declined for some reason so I decided it must have happened for a reason. Went ot Newegg and there it was 1289, cancelled my other order and bought the acer. Hope I dont get any dead pixels.

PS. The dothan definately out performs the banias.

You are wrong. Look at various reviews and you will see that the extra 1Mb of L2 cache does indeed help.

The benchmarks I've run with the Dothan are much higher than the Banias processors.

[edit]
Here's one that directly compares a 1.7 Dothan and a 1.7 Banias...
http://www.x86-secret.com/articles/c...n/dothan-4.htm

Not an "oh my God... this processor kills the Banias" type result... but never the less it does perform better.

It's cooler to have Dothan. It feels like you are surfing on the top of the wave of development.

the HD is a 650gig, but i cant find the speed, is it the 7k60 or 5400rpm?

(might order this thing today)

i think its a 60 gig 4200rpm drive
Neither I'm afraid. It's a 4200RPM, I'm going to replace it when I get mine, that is, if the performance bothers me.
yeah, that really sucks. 2 things bother me about this lappy: the ram is 512 (2*256) so i have to get rid of the old to upgrade and the slowness of the 60gb 4200, if it was the 54 00, i'd keep it as-is. So i am counting, the Compaq (in my sig) will cost just around $1400 after all the upgrades are done, but Acer will cost me $1500 (7k60 and more ram) and still be a weaker performer (64 video instead of 128 and only have a 1.5 banias over the 3.0 Prescott w/HT

This deal rocks, I have been looking at this laptop for about a month and came super close to buying last weekend at newegg. So glad I didn't! Actually this thread made me realize I better move before it goes out of stock :O

I went out to all of the local megastores yesterday just to get a feel for what the brick and mortar places were offering these days. All of the clerks told me that this week starts everyones "back to school" sales jamboree and I am hoping that the competition is what is prompting the price drop. Be optimistic - we are all getting the Dothans

Well I will find out in a couple days...
