Mayaman2's Big Review of the 4750 - Page 2

i will. but i want to wait till adam does his review to see how to dissemble it properly. although its in my manual as well, i would like to see adam's review whenever he releases it. i wonder if liquid cooling would be effective externally since it works on the same principal as a heatsink. the only difference is water is involved which absorbs heat 20 times more than air. (learned that from PADI!)

Speaking of Adam..where the heck is his review on this? He's not usually this late with reviewing is he?

I dunno. But a strange thing happened today. The fans went on full blast for no reason then cooled down to normal speed after a minute. Full blast isn't that loud though. Its still quieter than a desktop. I like the little beeps too, so if they weren't there I would probably be disappointed. When you turn it on the fans start up real fast, and go to a standstill. I never understood why, but I heard the 8790 does something similar. I do have the current powernow installed though.

That "initial burst" is that you won't burn out the bushings when the fans start. You can go from high to low or low to high; however, when you start you want to always start at high to prevent the burnout type of thing from happening.

I don't quite get what you're saying. Why would the fans starting up at low potentially burn it out?

It takes more power to start a fan from a stop, than to keep it running once it's already spinning. Not sure why that burns out a fan, but it does. Ever wonder why ceiling fans have the fastest speeds first when pulling the chain to turn it on? If you use a light-switch to control power and leave it at the lowest setting, the fan will wear out pretty fast.

lol good
i did some benchmarks i guess u guys cud compare em to mayaman's if u want. Synergi i haven't dloaded aquamark yet but I will when i get home and i'll run it then and c how it goes. These are with the Omega 4.5's (need em for dvd playback) had the Omega 4.7's before and 3dmark03 was getting 3501 so you can see the diff between the drivers here (4.7=3501 vs 4.5=3437)

3dmark03 = 3437

3dmark01se = 12551 @55*C

PCMark04 = 4056

As for battery life i had this in my post before "got my 4750". You can probably get 2++ hours on battery so its not that bad. Pretty good for most people unelss u really want portability. Then your probably better off with the Mobile AMD64 or even the Dothan proccessors

I can verify it happens on the 8790 and people have reported it happening on the 5690. Let us know how they work out for you.
I was having that same problem with dvd playback or any kinda video all the video and sound was choppy. I went back to Omega 4.5 drivers and this fixed it. Omega 4.6, 4.7 and beta 4.8 dont seem to fix this either..

Nope. It was expensive enough. It would have been in the 3000+ cost ranges. as it was it was 2900, but so far it seems to be worth. it This thing is much bigger and cooler looking in person. It looks like it could school any laptop or at least sit on them.
